Forums - Gaming Discussion - Can Dillon become a good gaming star?

Dillon is the hero in the game Dillon's Rolling Western, that in my opinion deserves a sequel. But that aside - I thought Dillon is a great game character. What do you think, can he develop into the coming star? Maybe not like Mario, but as Link, Nathan Drake, Samus Aran or Kratos? To develop into this, it needs naturally more games featuring Dillon. What game genres do you think Dillon could be used as character?

And, Dillon MUST be in the next Super Smash Bros. His unique fighting style could be a great addition.

No, I don't see it. It's too western in design (no pun intended). It doesn't look too Nintendo to me.
And the worst of all, unfortunately his game will not be popular enough to achieve anything other than a special appearence in a mini game in Warioware 7. Smash Bros is a place for video games super stars (Ice Climbers you say? Shut up!)

Ahem... Maybe a trophy :)

I haven't played his game, but I imagine that the best path to relevance is to work with what you have going for you and to dump the bad.

Dillon's made a decent start. Despite the game's critically mixed reception, he seems to be developing a fanbase. If the game is a big enough hit in the long run, a full retail title might be in order. If not, a sequel would do. Based on what I've heard about the game, it should do the following

Keep: The bang for the buck, the art style, exploration, combat
Add: A Tutorial, Multiplayer, Control options, More Variety in mission structure
Remove: The grinding for resources (perhaps harvesting should be automated?)

Ultimately, I believe Dillon can succeed if Vanpool masters its blend of exploration, tower defense, and combat. But he's not there yet.

Uhm isn't that an E-shop game?? so no... never... no chance.. hopefully he will die quickly and swiftly... you don't want him to become another Bubsy the bobcat or Gex

Multiplayer would be cool. This game should work great in cooperative mode, to fight off the monsters - and at the same time compete over more points or crystals. I like the search for crystals, so I wouldn't remove that. But it would be OK, if the mines itself are removed, and crystals can only be harvested by fighting monsters.

Why against download-games?

ow no I'm not against download games but if a character is to be succefull it has to have shelf space and marketing.. an DL game gets like zero marketing and an Nintendo E-shop games even minus 10... the market to which Dillon is now exposed to is really small.. so I think it's better to die quickly then suffer a fate like Bubsy and Gex who died slowly and painfully

Ah, I understand. Don't you think, there is a possible way from download to retail for a game series?

You might want to research Shifting World. That's a series that started as Flash games, moved to the iOS and PlayStation Minis store, and is now going to be a retail 3DS game.
