I haven't played his game, but I imagine that the best path to relevance is to work with what you have going for you and to dump the bad.

Dillon's made a decent start. Despite the game's critically mixed reception, he seems to be developing a fanbase. If the game is a big enough hit in the long run, a full retail title might be in order. If not, a sequel would do. Based on what I've heard about the game, it should do the following

Keep: The bang for the buck, the art style, exploration, combat
Add: A Tutorial, Multiplayer, Control options, More Variety in mission structure
Remove: The grinding for resources (perhaps harvesting should be automated?)

Ultimately, I believe Dillon can succeed if Vanpool masters its blend of exploration, tower defense, and combat. But he's not there yet.
