Well if the base Switch is too weak for some 3rd party games anyway, base Switch owners would lose nothing. They would still get the games it can run, and the ones it can't would be just for the Switch Pro.
One MUST however is that all Nintendo EXCLUSIVE, especially 1st party, but even the games that Nintendo is fronting the bill for like Bayo 3 or MUA3 as well, would need to be compatible with the base model. I would only support it if only bigger 3rd party multiplats missed the base model. Similar to some of the games on NEW 3DS.

So 3rd parties don't need to try optimise for the base model but Nintendo must?
At this point you may as well just make a new console.
What happens with a switch 2? Switch Pro becomes the new base model? So Nintendo so just follows a phone format?
I mean, I don't disagree with the viability, I just don't support it. Any game made for Switch should work regardless of the model you have. Users shouldn't be gated from experiences because they don't have the Pro model. Because in reality this just means that the chances for optimised ports could just end .
I suppose the worst part is that it actually results in console upgrading on a more regular basis cause the base model is now not able to get certain gamea which means you have an inferior product. At least with Pro and and X you are just losing out on graphics fidelity and performance. You can still you play all the games.

Honestly, I bounce back and forth between concepts on this topic. On one hand, they already did this with NEW 3DS, so it is not that far fetched that they would do this.
On the other, you also make valid points as it would be unwise to alienate any portion of the userbase, especially just after bouncing back from the WiiU. This is why I feel like at least 1st party games would have to work on both. Certain 3rd party games would not have worked on the base model anyway, so consumers that stuck with the base model really would not be losing anything in the grand scheme though. The real issue is perception, as many people would ignore this fact and FEEL like they are being shafted.
Honestly what Nintendo needs are a few in house devs like Panic Button that would have the sole focus of optimizing Switch ports for 3rd party games aiming for day and date releases. It would be an investment, but it very well could pay off in the end and would be the best option for taking care of their consumers as they would not need to alienate anyone in this scenario.
