Forums - Gaming - Famitsu FF XIII imperfect score explained

FF12 the lowest one in sales and the only one with 40

Not only is your statement false about the first part, you must also realize that sales are not indicative of quality.

Since my favorite FF, ff9, received 1 point lower this is fine with me. And FFXII was a good game and all but was not the best ff, atleast as far as Im concerned.

39/40=97.5% perfect. Hell, if I was this efficient at work Id be the CEO by now (of course then my efficiency would drop to sub 50%)

I keep coming back to that FFXII score..

I mean, it's just different times now. Famitsu is a lot more forgiving than they used to be, which is fine. But you can't compare their scores of now, especially of big franchises, to the ones they used to give 5+ years ago.

Anyone who defends FFXII needs to be fucking shot.

Not to start a flame war, but this kind of thing makes me sick. You have no idea what you're talking about, nobody is defending anything, people loved that game, as did I, on its own merits. I don't give a shit if it was called Final Fantasy XII, or Ring-a-Ding f'n Doodle. The game was fun, niche, and very, very deep. It basically has no casual narative, and its battle system takes research and technique to properly delve. Most Final Fantasy fanboys didn't want a game like that. They wanted Final Fantasy VII with different characters. Who really deserves to be shot, in that scenerio? NOBODY, but the redundancy fans deserve some jeering at the very least.

The game was very core, very niche, and to much of a damn mystery for most people to even bother with. They half-assedly spent 40 hours of the game trying to learn a battle system, which after said time, was still a complete f'n mystery, they gave up, hated the game, and still do to this day.

Ask yourself this.

In FFXII, did you ever craft a Tournesol?

Don't lie, because I already know you didn't.

I'll make a bet with you.

Go back, play the game, and craft a Tournesol.

If you still hate the game, I'll kiss your ass.

You won't hate it. My winnings will be your thanks. Nobody who has ever played the game enough to craft a Tournesol, actually hated it, imho.

If you live your entire life without crafting a Tournesol, you're missing out bro.

That's how you can tell apart a casual FFXII hater who thinks their 40 hours of blind fumblings with one of the most complex games ever made means something, and a Final Fantasy veteran who gave the game a fair shake. The latter crafted a Tournesol, and thus, knows the game is good.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Final Fantasy XII was an excellent game!

FF XII was a good game. I think most people have a problem with FF XII because of the high expectation they had before the release of the game. And the other problem I think that FF XII had, is that I have no idea who the main character is? Since the story was about get Ashe back to the throne, people says she is the main character. but in my case FF XII has no main character. I liked FF XII and I have about 160 hours of playing and did all the missions, Espers,Yiazmat... And it is the only FF I finished that I didn't start over. The plot was good, but the characters were too weak

That's too funny, but it actually portraits the common mentality. People are never satisfied with anything, even if that anything is close to perfection (even when people are far from perfect).

If this trend goes on, even Shovelware will have to get perfect scores or there will be massive meltdowns in the gaming community.

Wii music deserved 10/10! STOP HATING ON IT LETATDARK!

/sarcasm

I will, I will xDD

I actually know someone that is a Wii Music fanatic, but then again the only games he has ever played are Wii Music and Wii Fit :P

@Azelover

Then go ahead, shoot me. I mean, if you have the audacity to make a statement like that, then at least have the courage to back it up. I see that you were quick to disappear from the thread though, that speaks volumes of the level of maturity behind such a comment and way of argumentation.

@ZenfoldorVGI

You hit the nail on the head with that Tournessol commentary ;)

I even ask those who hate FFXII with such a passion to actually go further than crafting Tournessol, I dare challenge you to do the Fight against Zodiark, Yiazmat and Omega Weapon, without using gambits. Go on, don't be shy, as ZenfoldorVGI put correctly, it's not anyone who thinks that his 40 or so hours in the game is enough to properly give an assay about the game.

You can complain all you want about the story, about the music, about the fact that it feels more of an MMORPG to you than a JRPG, yet what you people can't deny is that FFXII took the FF battle system a huge leap forward in complexity and strategy, adding a challenge that has not been seen since the earlier FF games.

Before I joined this site, I always thought that Final Fantasy fans were amongst the most open minded bunch of them all, since each FF game is different, thus us having to adapt to new gaming experiences, which is only good. Now I see how wrong and mistaken I was, people just want repetition of what they consider it's favourite. I wouldn't want all FF games to be like FFVI, because that would grow old and boring pretty soon.

I dread to think if any of you who complain about FFXII or complain about innovation in each FF ever did a FF game, that would be the worse ever made.

Actually, it's because they'd hit their 40 quota for the year, and SE was $50 short (someone post the picture).

(Former) Lead Moderator and (Eternal) VGC Detective

wow.

why are people complaining about a 39/40.

Well since the best FF got 39/40 I take this as a good sign (I'm talking about FFX of course)

It looks like you'll have to cut of any relation with that kind of person... He likes Wii Music? Wowwwwwwwwww

Now that the sarcasm is off, Wii Music is brilliant. And hey... I played more than Wii Fit and Wii Music, imagine that!!

You don't like/understand the concept, that's fine. But if because of that you imply lack of quality, then you're just "following the leader".
