Well, so because some people don't like the wiimote, then every Sony fan said the same? That's pretty weak.

No it's not.  You basically just said every sony fan said they didn't like the wiimote.

Yea, now that Sony announced one, suddenly everything thinks it is a good thing.  I was sure that Nintendo had started the next generation of gaming and now it is happening.

Not true at all. Sony announced their dualanalog controller before nintendo announced their n64 controller. Additionally, the Vetrex was the first console to use an analog controller

Yet Nintendo released  theirs first.  Odd, if you don't take into account Nintendo keeps a close lid on their ideas until they are just about ready to release it.  I can't speculate if Sony thought of the idea independently or if they managed to catch wind of Nintendo's idea.

This is also false. Both warhawk and Jumping Flash came out before Mario 64 and were, as you call it, "True 360" gaming.

Nintendo made the first really good 3D classic and the first with good camera control and game  concepts.  If you want to get picky, you can consider some of the FX games on the SNES as the first 3D games, some of them "True 360" gaming even if they weren't true 3D graphics.

Note: It seems that Google Chrome for Linux doesn't seem to want to work very well within quotes.  I apologize.

I'm just saying, let's not point fingers at who copied who. It was time for 3d, that is all.

Sony is my favorite system, but I'm not married to any of them. I love my PS3 and like my 360. I like to see all of them do well, because when there is good comp, everybody wins with better games. With whats out there I do believe Sony will continue to sale very well and take 2nd place this gen. I dont think they can catch up to wii, but if they did wow unreal.

Motion control, the 'holy grail of gaming'? XD LMAO, that's hilarious, I remember too well when Nintendo unveiled their plans for Wii, and Sony dismissed motion controls as a gimmicky fad that would never catch on.

... What will all the PS3 fanboys do now, after making fun of the Wii and its control mechanisms for years, saying they don't want nor need them, and how superior traditional analog controls are... yet now Sony themselves are proclaiming motion controls to be the way to go, and indeed, going as far as saying they're gaming's 'holy grail'? XD

Well, so because some people don't like the wiimote, then every Sony fan said the same? That's pretty weak.

Also @ people going on about how Sony did or did not 'rip-off' many ideas from Nintendo, well, Nintendo were the ones who introduced the D-pad, the shoulder buttons, the control stick, the rumble pack, and now, motion controls. Guess what other hardware companies followed suit and integrated all of these ideas into their own subsequent controllers? That's right, all of them.

Fact is, Nintendo pioneers a lot of things that go on to become industry standards, whether some people like it or not. And yes, the PS1 controller did only receive a control stick after the N64 came out and proved with its 3D games how well it worked.

Not true at all. Sony announced their dualanalog controller before nintendo announced their n64 controller. Additionally, the Vetrex was the first console to use an analog controller

And there's also a difference between 3D and 3D. Yes, the PS1 had 3D games before Nintendo came out with their N64. *However*, Nintendo were the first ones to do true open-world 360 degrees 3D gaming right with a little thing called Super Mario 64. Compare SM64 with the '3D' games on PS1 that came out before it, you'll see what I mean.

This is also false. Both warhawk and Jumping Flash came out before Mario 64 and were, as you call it, "True 360" gaming.

1. This was clearly meant as a joke. I was just pointing out the irony of it all, y'know, Sony copying motion controls after telling the world it was a fad. And besides, I was talking about fanboys, not fans. There's a difference.

2. I admit, yes, this one's a bit fuzzy. Actually the thing you're talking about was called Vectrex, and yeah that one came first. However have you ever seen one? Those were not thumbsticks.

Sony Dual Analog controller may have been 'announced' earlier than N64 came out, however the controller was never actually created or shown until after the N64 and its controller had been out for some time (Nov. 1996 - the N64 released in june 1996, and its controller had been shown months in advance). Fact is, the closest thing to a controller with a control stick Sony had until *after* the N64 came out was this thing:

3. I said that SM64 was the first true 3D game that gave you an open world to explore in 360 degrees that did it right. And I can't stress this last part enough. They did it right. I've played both Warhawk and Jumping Flash, and no, they did not fit that description.

However, that's not to slam Sony or anything of the kind. It's just that, well, like I said, Nintendo pioneers a *lot* of things that eventually become industry standards, and other companies see what they're doing and go on to make their own versions of these innovations.

But let's not derail this thread further. Everyone thought Nintendo was doomed and would be forced to exit the hardware business, then boom, they disrupt the entire industry and become one of the most succesful and most profitable companies in the history of the world. Meanwhile their competitors, the ones everyone thought would trounce Nintendo, are left behind and are now scrambling and falling over themselves to release their own motion control devices. That's all there is to it, really. Nintendo are succesful, and the rest want a piece of the pie. We'll have to see whether they'll have any kind of success or not.

Eh, basic PR talk we've all heard before (from any company, it really doesn't matter). TheProf00 and Cheebee's conversation is more interesting to be honest.

Ever since the start of this current generation of consoles, Sony has been playing catch up to Nintendo, and to a lesser degree, Microsoft. Whether it was due to launching a year after the Xbox 360, or retailing at a more expensive price point than the Wii, the PlayStation 3 struggled in its infancy. But, ever since the price drop and the introduction of the PS3 Slim, the brand appears on strong legs, and Sony says it is poised to have a significant 2010.

Today we had a chance to speak with John Koller, director of hardware marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America, about Sony’s momentum leading into the holidays. When asked about catching up to its competitors, Koller said, “We are making every effort to do so.”

“We know our heritage, we have the PlayStation and PlayStation 2, and we’re a company of strong sales,” he said. “We really enjoy providing consumers with what they ask for. There’s tremendous value in the PS3 and going into next year, we have so much wind at our back. Consumers are still going to be heavily demanding our product in 2010.”

In 2010, Sony will introduce its motion controller, a concept that Koller describes as “the holy grail of gaming, placing people in the game.” The PlayStation version will be more precise and fun than any other product on the market, he said. If Sony’s motion controller appears to rip off the Wii’s technology, it’s important to note that Sony has been developing its motion control technology for many years.

Beyond the new motion controller, Sony has a stellar list of games launching for the PS3 in 2010. We already know about God of War III, MAG, Heavy Rain, and ModNation Racers, but Koller says Sony has some big tricks up its sleeves in the software department, both first and third party titles. We’ll have to wait for more details, but it sounds like 2010 is going to be a huge year for Sony as it builds off the momentum from the past few months.

We will have more of our interview with Sony shortly, along with a look at a time that we believe is Sony’s new golden age.

I want to believe them but the demo in this year's E3 was not too convincing that it has been in developement for many years.

I know thats an absolute lie

How can an opinion where he specifically states the word "believe" be a lie?  It can only be a lie if he stated a false fact surely?

The sony's motion control is like wii with Madworld... CasualCore

Isn't this more an argument about about game mechanics than what was a true 3D game? No one would dispute Nintendo as quality developers. And I could equally say that actually Quake was the first true 3D game, as that was released a day before Mario 64
