Forums - Nintendo Discussion - No October conference in America, no more surprises

Next E3 is too far away, though. They need some sort of venue to discuss what's happening between now and then.

@shams: Well, kind of off-topic, but in order to reach the projections (Which is extremely important for their image with their investors and shareholders) they would have to do something about the slowing sales. They will be 4 million down FY over FY by next week. They will need something to make up for those 4 million lost.

It's called NSMBWii and Wii Fit Plus. Nintendo needs a software title that will push hardware for a while. The lose of momentum was because Animal Crossing and Wii Music did not push hardware. Truth be told, this is the worst case senario for them right now. Wii Music and Animal Crossing both failed to move hardware and Wii Sports Resort is not pushing sales for a long time like Nintendo was hoping it could (despite the fact it will sell for a long time). They just need the software.

@Smaschu: The problem is that Wii is supposed to sell the same amount of consoles it sold last FY, but it's 4 million down, and I just don't see how those 2 games would be able to manage that feat. Besides Wii is still selling in between 120k-150k less each week, so the gap could reach 4.5 million by October.

The problem is that I can't see Wii Fit+ having any considerable effect at all. The game is barely an expansion, it's not really a new game or a new experience. Most of the people who were planning on buying a Wii for Wii Fit have had more than a year and a half to buy it. This is not a brand new game like Wii Vitality will be, this is an expansion that will obviously sell greatly on its own, but that it will not manage to move HW at levels that would be considered successful.

I know the game could end up selling 10 million by next FY, but how many of those units will actually be balance board bundled? Not many, since the balance board price is now going up 10 dollars, so it will be more expensive for people now to buy and sales could be hindered. The Wii Fit craze has already passed its peak, we are now seeing slowing sales and honestly the expansion will be bought mostly by Wii Fit owners since its 20 bucks alone.

Best case scenario I see is WF+ slwoing the decline or barely raising weekly sales, but not enough to even position the Wii at the same weekly levels it had last year.

So if Wii is down 5 million YoY when November arrives, that would mean that it will have to sell about 575k more units than it did last year each week until January. And it will all fall on NSMBWii's hands to push that crazy amount of hardware, and that's not possible. Even then, Wii would need to sell the same in Q1 2010, which is on its own a very tough thing to do because Wii sold at record levels in Q1 2009 (Mainly because it was supply constrained in the Holidays and many people ended up buying a Wii during this period).

All in all, not really feasable with what they have available for the Holidays, so that's why I expect them to announce something soon.

Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.

Uhm... wasn't last year the first time NoA ever had the fall summit? And the main reason was to talk about Club Nintendo for America and repeat exactly what NoJ said... so really... what would be the reason NoA would host the event again? So they can announce new items for the American Club Nintendo? Hardly...

The fall summit will happen in Japan, like it always has, any news will be announced there and instantly posted on all major gaming websites which is what would happen if NoA had the summit, so really you get the same ends with a different set of means.

Seems like another thread to whine about something unimportant...

Let's make a bet if you are so sure about it.

Or are you the one whining because things won't go like you want?

And I'm not whining, I'm just informing what Nintendo said, although I didn't know I could hurt some feelings with it. I'm not making anything up, as there are 2 events happening, one on September 16th in Europe and one on October 3rd-4th in Japan, both which didn't happen last year. So I don't see a reason for another event happening days later if they are both more than enough to announce or show whatever they have to.

Seems like another post to whine about something unimportant...

So there's still an event happening?  Which might take place of the summit?  So there WILL be an event?  And so the problem is solved...

Also that has to be the worst comeback ever.

So you didn't read the thread and called me a whiner?

I do expect more from people who are supposed to know the forum rules.

This doesn't sound good for Wii at all...

I read the OP yes, I read the article, which said the American summit wasn't happening.  I didn't see that edit you put in there after posting the thread.  Sorry if I don't care enough to go reread your edits.  But if there's an event it doesn't change the fact if it's named the Nintendo Summit or not, they're going to be there and doing something.

Well, my point was that there isn't going to be a Nintendo exclusive event this year, they are not doing the media summit. This is an event open to the public.

trestres, why do you say the balance board has gone up $10? surely the extra $10 is the fact that your getting more content than from the original wii fit bundle
