Forums - Sales Discussion - Why do YOU care about sales?

It's fun to watch tech companies compete, I have some personal stake in the video games market, and I'm totally addicted to info-porn.

keep it real. Why do you care about sales?

Sometimes a habit starts for one reason, but continues for another.

During the fall of 2006 the tech sites I frequented were full of flame wars predicting the outcome of this gen. And seemingly everywhere Nintendo fans like myself were mocked for our faith in the wii. When it first started to become evident that the wii was selling better than the PS3 I began coming to vgchartz for proof of this in flame wars. I came here for numbers and nothing more.

But eventually the discussions started dying down on other boards, even though I was gunning to keep talking about this topic; this led me to the forums. Once I started reading the forums I found that really enjoyed the prevelance of fact based discussions on this board. (this isn't to deny the existence of fanboys - heck, I am one - but I think its fair to say that the percent of intelligent posts are higher here than anywhere else I've been, and there are a variety of viewpoints which are well represented)

So I guess I am interested in sales not for their own sake, but because I like the discussion on vgchartz; I find that when I have taken breaks from vgchartz for weeks or even months, I don't think about sales at all until I come back here.

Because it is interesting to see what sells, why it sells, and what makes it sell.

Because otherwise the only way to determine the impact of a game is by the number of exclaimation marks after the 'OMFG' xxx game is massive.

I'm sure that's it. Anyways, I think we care about sales so much because we sometimes want a certain to sell well first week or to have good lifetime sales.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

numbers make me feel smart

I like to see the impact that sales may or may not have on future titles and development. As gamers we may not like to admit it, but sales drive the market in every way. They influence everything the market does, so it is very important (IMO) because it shapes what the future may hold for the industry we love.

.......I also like to brag when my favorite console/title is doing well.....or react poorly when it is doing not so well. Just being honest.

For fun and enjoyment.
I also want to see how my favorite and most anticipated games sells. If that game performed well.
