Mario kart > halo =P.

in sales also.

YAY!!! lol you did it!!!!

mario kart and mario in general would definitly be more popular then Halo 3.

Which makes them better?

Let's continue. MotorStorm > Mass Effect. Duck Hunt (SNES)> Halo 3.

Woah now!! don't be putting false words into my mouth. Note the bolded red up above.

You said that if Killzone 2 was a great game, more people would have bought it.

Well then, why did only 2 million people buy Mass Effect, when 2.45 million 360 owners bought Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. Is Marvel a better game?

Note that I am not saying that Killzone 2 is better than Halo 3, I'm just saying that it's opinion, and can't be decided by sales.

I don't remember saying that. you might have misread something that i said earlier, but anyways popularity of a game doesn't always mean its an amazing game, and a good game is somewhat subjective to opinions....

a game with lower scores can outsell a game with much higher scores.

There are so many ways to determine popularity, and so many different things to take into consideration like fanbase, userbase, scores, how many people play at any given time, sales, how well known it is, and their are probably more.

Ultimate Alliance was heavily bundled while Mass Effect sold 2 million on its own.

Do you have a brain in your head? You can't figure this out on your own?

Heavily bundled? Really?

This is difficult when you claim that every game that has ever been bundled for a month is "heavily bundled".

Do you think that Hannah Montana Music Jam is better than God of War II?

I don't know how long it was bundled but that could have been over a million additional sales.

People buy the Hannah Montana game because they enjoy the show, music, etc.

People buy Halo 3 because its a genuinely great shooter. Killzone 2 and God of War aren't bad but I don't think they appeal to the masses in regards to gameplay.

I don't think Gran Turismo is hype, its a great driver if you enjoy that genre.

I don't say the most popular music today is actually the best music. But I understand people actually enjoy it.

@ Kantor
Sticking with the topic of Hannah Montana. That game also sells a shit load of copies because parents buy their kids stupid shit. It would never sell on an HD console because its a kids game and it stayed on a kids console.

While it is a genuinely great shooter, that's not why people buy it, entirely. People buy it because it's the sequel to two shooters which are better than it could ever be, and because it has megaton advertising, so they've heard of it.

I'm sure Hannah Montana is more popular than God of War II, but that doesn't make it better.

Killzone 2 had megaton advertising. If there's a PS3 owner that doesn't know about Killzone 2 than they probably don't give a shit about gaming period.

Halo sells better with each release because people actually enjoy it. God of War sold less with the sequel. Motor Storm sequel sold less. Donkey Kong Country sold less with each sequel. Metroid Prime sells less with each sequel. I could go on and on.

You can't compare Hannah Montana to God of War. They're not the same type of game and have a completely different audience. Comparing God of War and Ninja Gaiden makes much more sense.

God of War is more popular than Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry, for that matter.

Back to Halo, it sells to people who have never played a Halo game before, and thus have no idea of its quality (as I said, it is a great game.) Killzone 2 had some good advertising for a week before launch, and a while after, but nowhere near the massive amounts of advertising that Halo 3 got. Billboards, TV, cinemas, coke cans...

Go up to an average PS3 owner and ask if they've heard of Killzone 2. They probably haven't. Now go up to ANYBODY who has ever played a video game, and ask them if they've heard of Halo, particularly if they are a 360 owner. Pretty much everyone will have.

Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden were more popular at one point. God of War had its peak in popularity with the original release. We don't know how the next release will do. God of War has sold less with each release so far.

You don't know who is buying Halo 3. I personally bought 1, 2, and 3 as they were released. I imagine millions of other people did the same as well. As far as advertiing goes, everyone who owns a PS3 is now aware of Killzone 2 and it has received nothing but great reviews. The original Halo didn't have such massive advertising but it still managed to sell very well. How did that happen?

Frankly I don't even know that many PS3 owners. I live and Phoenix, AZ and it seems like everyone around here owns a 360. Perhaps there's a lot of Wii owners too but I don't really talk to little kids.

The original Halo sold because it was a fantastic game. It remains one of the best first person shooters of all time. Also, it was the best Xbox launch title by far, and probably the best game on the Xbox, when all was said and done (not difficult )

Millions of people would have bought Halo 3 with crappy advertising, certainly, and it would still probably outsell Killzone 2, thanks to brand name (for the most part), but millions more bought it because they saw it everywhere, and because it's so god damned famous.

I know quite a few PS3 owners, and believe me, very few of them knew what Killzone 2 was before I told them. I imagine the ones I haven't told still have no idea.

Whereas I can ask any 360 owner who bought it for Guitar Hero and DDR if they've heard of Halo 3, they'll say yes. They may not have heard of Chief, or the Covenant, or Cortana, or even know what the hell it is, but they've heard of it. Even people who have never played 360 have heard of Halo 3. It's no easy feat making a series that well known. Probably the only series more famous than Halo is Mario.

No, Halo does not really sell to new people.

Halo 2 had well over 1 million pre-orders in North America, and that was not some new kids who had never played a Halo game before. That was those who had played Combat Evolved, thought it was damn good and looked forward to 2 so much all pre-ordered it.
