Forums - Nintendo Discussion - My First Reaction to RE5

I know this isn't a Wii game, but I can't help it. Playing the game made me miss the RE4 Wii controls. RE5 just seems slow to and cumbersome to move and aim. I haven't played enough to say whether the game will be good, but it's difficult to enjoy it when all I can think about is how unnatural the controls are. The graphics are nice, but to be honest they don't really increase my enjoyment of the game very much.

i felt the exact opposite about the controls, but then ive always felt gypped that the controls were not one to one on the wii. i felt it returned to where it belonged with controller controls. the move to the wii being so unnatural. I have enjoyed the demo as a whole surprisingly so I had not planned on buying the game till after the demo.

games I owned for the Wii:

Tales of Symphonia 2
Mario Galaxy
Paper Mario
RE4
Wii Sports
Zelda
Metriod
Red Steel
DBZ
Brawl
Madden 08

I play my Wii A LOT! Probably more than anyone on this forum, and I believe the controls are worse than a normal controler. The gamethat used the Wii mote better than a standard controler is RE4 IMO. The rest of them would all be better with a normal controler IMO.

the Wii mote just hasn't showed me anything.

I would have, too but Nintendo is doing some crazy things lately.  Not helping to bring over Fatal Frame and DoC and that lists of games that they got for this year thats Japan only,  I don't think Nintendo cares for their US players, so i want to move on but I love this wiimote too much for a regular controller.

....So you think Wii Sports would work better with a Gamecube controller? Ignoring Zelda, Metroid, Red Steel, and Budokai Tenkaichi here.... Wii Sports?

I'll comment on those I've played from that list (except RE4 in which I agree with you):

Mario Galaxy -> Not a very Wiimote-heavy game, but I did like the specific parts which involved motion controls like the part where you control the sphere. Many people say the IR controls are tacked on but I enjoyed to play the two player mode with my girlfriend (we would switch every once in a while).

Zelda -> This is a port of a GC game so obviously it wasn't made with Wii controls in mind.

Wii Sports -> Better with a normal controller? Err...

Metroid -> Why on earth would you like RE4:Wii's controls but not Metroid's?

I don't know about metroid.  I like how they did all of the motion controls.  MoHH2 did some nice motion controls too with

some of the weapon in the campaign mode.

I understand what you mean, but its just because no one ever (even nintendo) has giving the wii mote a lot of thought.  The tech isn't bad, the developer are.  I believe when the graphics and motion/IR controls are together than  we will see some great games.

I am very surprised.

@NJ5

Mario Galaxy would have been a lot better... no, I'll say it could have been a lot better with a gamecube controller. I did not like not having very much control over my camera most of the time. I felt that it was mainly because the lack of the standard 2nd analog. Having it there as an option would improved the camera a lot. I also think that it, along with more buttons, would have made water levels better.

Wii Sports is a bad game with or without the Wii mote so I don't think it matters much.

As for Metriod, I don't like FPS so my opinion is pretty biased. Heck, I don't like COD4's controls on any platform.

The 2nd best game that did motion controls good was the DBZ game IMO. I thought that game was really fun, and it's still one of my favorites. Though, it's obvious that a normal controller is better for fighting games.

@Naiyo:
No, I disagree. It's not the developers, it's just the Wii being limited. My main problem is that Nintendo didn't try and add motion controls. Instead, they stripped everything down and tacked them on as a replacement. I'll put it like this: The Wii mote is basiclly what the DS would be if Nintendo took away all the buttons from the GBA and added a touch screen with just a d-pad. It would suck.

Considering that the Resident Evil series started out with some of the worst controls in gaming, I'm sure this control downgrade won't be a deal breaker for most people.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

The lack of a Wiimote isn't the issue. The fact is the game is slow and clunky, even when compared with the PS2 and GC versions of RE4. It's just not going to be a very good game. Sucks, but that's life.
