Yep, what you said is far more reasonable, but the point of the thread starter is another and their answers are right inside the present discussion.

Did you like what the DS stood for in its first two years when it was a low powered handheld console as opposed to the PSP and the land of the uber "casual" Nintendogs and Brain Training selling millions upon millions with the occasional New Super Mario bros? Do you like what it stands for now?

Sure you might not like what the Wii stands for today as a low powered home console as opposed to the PS360 and the lad of the uber "casual" Wii Play and Wii Fit selling millions upon millions with the occasional Super Mario galaxy but can you honestly say that you will never like what it will stand for in the future?

How often do people migrate from the dominant platform to the secondary platforms wich get less and less support?

For the most part, I'd say it's doubtful. All the big games are found on PS360, so I can't imagine that the draw of the Wii's exclusives would be nearly enough to pull over a significant number of the PS360's fanbase.

The Wii does have a decent appeal for drunken parties though, so that could factor in to a few of the PS360 audience picking one up.

well, I know I'm not representative of hte general population. but I've had a Wii since August '07 and have yet to buy a game for it. It almost never gets used at all except my dad bowling a few games about 3 times a month or less. I WAS interested in MK because I loved it on the N64 and the Cube, but then Nintendo had to make it so you can't so a free-for-all (the reason I loved the other games) and I didn't get it. (Wipeout HD and Burnout Revenge are more than enough to satisfy my desire for more traditional racing games)

Also, with the tremendous amount of games coming out for the PS3 in the coming months, I don't see this changing anytime soon. However, I am keeping the Wii in case the day ever does come that a game will come out for it that interests me, but at this point, there are none forthcoming that interest me in the slightest. Based on that (and I realize it is just my opinion), I'm going to say it is becoming increasingly unlikely that PS360 owners will buy a Wii.

I'm sorry people, my bad, I intended to say to get a wii in addition. Like benga said. But I just realized how wrong the title was after posting it. Of course a few HD gamers are getting rid off their consoles. HD gaming is just too awesome to leave :)

Actually, he said in the OP that the PS2 was owned alongside the other consoles last-gen, so it should have been pretty clear that he meant dual ownership.

OT:  Once enough 3rd parties begin to take the Wii seriously (combined with the large potential usage for Wiimotion+), in addition to Sega, HVS, and partly Capcom, I can't see how at least some would stay away.

Well, I bought a PS3 first then a Wii, so unless I'm the only person in the world to do so I would imagine some other HD console owners will do so too.

It's down to what they want, of course. The Wii complements my PS3, but I wouldn't be looking to play FPS or games where I believe HD graphics add to the experience, so I'm sure many PS3/360 owners simply won't see any appeal in the Wii's games/experience (which is fair enough).

I do suspect its more likely PS3 owners would also get a Wii than 360, but I could be wrong. Most 360 owners I know are passionate about online shooters, Live and the 360 in general, and show very little interest in Wii (and in fact tend to bemoan its existence). Most PS3 owners I know who don't have a Wii speak about getting one at some point.

Of course that's a small sample, but its the only one I know!

Just by doing a quick search, there are two threads right there about PS3 owners on VGC who traded them in for Wiis. The first was on the front page just today
