Holy shit, you people forgot about The Sims 3!

Okay, we have a winner. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, can outsell The Sims.

WSR might get best selling console game, depending on GT5's release date, but I know GT5 will be tracking well above WSR by the end of 2009.

Great games sell well regardless of userbase size. Let's not forget, the PS2's userbase was what, 15 million when GT3 was released? GT3 is currently at 14.87 million sales and is second only to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas as the best selling game of last gen.

While GTA games sell more as a gen progresses, GT games sell less. The first GT game on a console always sells quite a bit more than its direct sequel. Therefore, GT6 will not sell as well as GT5 (If GT6 makes it out on PS3, which it should)

Let's be honest here. If Gran Turismo 5 was released in March, it would outsell WSR. Agreed?

You must be some kind of joke account if you don't think Wii Sports is a system seller. It is arguably the biggest system seller of all time, never mind of this generation alone (only SMB on NES comes close).... people ARE buying the Wii for Wii Sports... that means it is a system seller.

And regardless of what you think, people are clearly enjoying Wii Sports else they would not play it so much.... The average playtime per person for Wii Sports is higher than for Mario Galaxy, in fact only 3 games are played more per person (that is included on the Nintendo channel, which includes all the important games at least) Twilight Princess, Smash Bros and Fire Emblem.

Personally I have racked up 110 hours of Wii Sports.

GT is released too late (and won't sell enough regardless)

none of the Halo games can

GTA will not be released in 09, and even if it does, it still wouldnt do it

You know, I think I'm going to step away from predictions all together now. If I've learned anything, it's that you never underestimate the Wii and it's ability to sell software. Who would have guessed that Wii Fit and Mario Kart (both released in April/May) would be selling 600,000+ and nearly 700,000 in one week in December? Or Wii Play, which is on a whole nother level. Who knows what GT5 will sell compared to Wii Sports Resort. The only thing that is certain at this point, is people have been eating crow for months now because they didn't think the Wii was capable of much. Yet people still insist a game won't sell well based purely on the fact that they don't want it to.

Wii Music was not the best example. Comparing the effects of other Wii titles about sport is. They kicked ass and so will this.

Anyway we haven't considered the sheer awesomeness of 80 yo grandmothers in retirement villages sword fighting.

Only Wii Fit 2 could challenge Wii Sports 2



 

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Paul Warren you have to accept that Wii Sports is the most popular game this generation, it's like Mario for NES a game that have defined this gen. Gamerankings, Metacritic do not really matter, reviews matter only for fanboys that want to prove that somewhat their console is superior, people play whats fun, what's engaging and that's what Wii Sports is.

It's Wii Sports that have showed Wii's capabilities, and it is a system seller.

Wii Fit on the other side is another phenomena just like the Wii and will continue to sell amazingly, it might have a shot at outselling the PS3.

 Nope, not even Sims could defeat Wii Sports 2 at this point, gran turismo would get slaughtered by Wii Sports 2

Bahaha.

I doubt Gran Turismo will even be outselling Wii Music weekly if it (GT5) is released before mid November, don't get me wrong, GT5 will have good legs compared to an average game, but it will be more like GTAIV legs than Wii___ legs.

GT5 will open well, have maybe 5 weeks of sales above WSR then fall below. (might stay above WSR a while in "others" alone, but not WW)
