being a continuation of a toryline the franchse can only sell so much.

Finally someone points out that the only common threads that FFs have with each other are quality, chocobos(since EDIT 2) , moogles (since EDIT 3), crystal/orbs meaning it is not a tired franchise, just a name that gets used over and over.

Why is this important? Because anyone can pick up a FF game at any release and not have to worry about catching up with the story line, unlike KH.

EDIT: Add Airships, certain monsters, and character classes to the list.

What really puzzles me is when people say that they need to stop making final fantasies and focus on new IPs. But really all they would do is make Final Fantasy XIV with no moogles or those defining characteristics. The storyline and the gameplay of each FF is completely different, which is the reason this series has been able to continue as long as it has.
