Sekiro. I thought it was weak in combat, I was so wrong. Turned out to be in my top five and same for Bloodborne

Divinity OS2, I thought it was a downgrade of the first game until I replayed it and it was clearly better.

The Crab souls game. Eh, still not great but I was wrong to call it dogshit.

Still Wakes the Deep, I have it a 3/10. It didn't deserve that. Maybe 5 or 6/10.

Halls of Torment. I said it was better than Vampire Survivors. I was wrong, it's second best.

The FF7 remake games. They are good now but I can't reason why sense I despised the first remake first time I played.

Diablo 4, it was good but somehow they really screwed it up and it's off putting now but I guess this is not applicable cause they did it with patching. 455 hours and I loved most of it regardless.

Shining Force 2

The first time I played it, I was frustrated by all of the overworld exploration aspects.  I wanted a game like Shining Force 1, which was really about the combat only.  Several years after trying 2, I gave it another try and really loved it.  I just had to let go of my expectations to see how the exploration made it even better than the first game.

The one I can think of is Suioden V. Dropped it at first cause i had a very bad first impression, because the first hours of the game are horribly slow paced and boring. Even by JRPG standards, it takes way too long for this game to setup what it wants to setup. The second time i tried to play it i powere through all that setup, and it really payed off. The game gets so much better, it really was a great experience. But that first arc is really rough.

On the opposite side of that spectrum is TOTK. Caused a good first impression, I was sort of expecting a BOTW type satisfactory experience, and at first i was loving it, but it didnt take long to bore me, had none of BOTW's sense of wonder and i got tired of the building and crafting mechanics very quickly. Its the biggest thing in the game gameplay-wise and honestly it just wasnt for me. Tried giving it another chance but yeah, it didnt grow on me.

I didn't expect to like Splinter Cell because I usually hate stealth when it's just small part or special levels of a game.

Quite a few, actually. As I replay games that I first finished 15, 20, 30 years ago, I often downgrade them a point or two. I think it’s just the fact that I’ve played so many games since, so my scale has stretched in the intervening years. Also, my tastes have evolved somewhat.

Take Majora’s Mask, for example. I had it as a 10/10 game in 2000. After replaying it a few years ago, I dropped it to 8.5/10. Still a GOTY contender; still a fantastic game. Just not as heavenly as I remembered.

I hated Death Stranding 2 so much during the first few hours that I abandoned it for nearly a year. I thought it was the most advanced looking borefest in the history of gaming. But when I ran out of things to play, and gave it another shot, I was awarded something truly special. Now, I think of it as abstract masterpiece. It's the only massive, AAA title this generation that feels as original as the PS2's games for me. I'll never forget it.

Yeah I can relate; as a kid I played countless hours of games like Godzilla Save the Earth on Xbox and thought it was the best shit ever, replaying it now, it's more of a 7/10.

I’ve had a few games I’ve changed opinions on both ways. Witcher 3 was a game I hated but a third attempt of trying it (I finished it) I thought it was an ok game and after a full second replay I greatly enjoyed it. Whilst Grim Fandango a game I really liked back in the day .. enraged me when I replayed it earlier this year. Dragons Dogma 2 was a game I found forgettable when I initially played it and honestly after a replay I thought the same but this third replay .. I’m having a blast.
