I wanna see what other Nintendo IPs they can do wonders with. Have they worked on any other Nintendo franchises?

Not so far; who knows what they will do next after this though; Retro started off as the Metroid Prime guys but went on to make Donkey Kong Country Returns and Tropical Freeze, Next Level Games went from Punch-out to Federation Force to Luigi's Mansion to Mario Strikers, etc.

I really hope they do a new punch out some day. One of my favourite games on the Wii.

This looks more along the lines of the direction I want to see with the Metroid than the Prime games. I missed Dread since it came out on 3DS after I put it down for good. However I have a few questions for anyone with any time:

1. What is the structure like? More linear like the Prime games, or more open-ended like Metroid 1? (If you’re not familiar, it had a Breath of the Wild type structure where there was this small pool section to instead of a tutorial before letting you out in the lake, which allowed you to go mostly everywhere from the start.

2. How about the tension/suspense; Metroid 1 had the consequences of getting crushed meaning a lot of grinding which induced a lot of tension before going into the next room, but did the game ever have that kind of fear of some kind of consequence… even if it’s just a shift in general tome or a Resident Evil 2 style jump scare? However the game does it.

3. I think this goes without saying, but would it be fair to say the game is a lot more lively than the Prime games?

Dread was a Switch release, you may be thinking of samus returns.

Dread is on the more linear side. Although it still has plenty of exploration.

It has a lot of tension. It has sections where you are hunted by a robots that can't be killed until you find a particular weapon in that section. If they catch you, you have an extremely brief moment to escape, but it is almost impossible to consistently do. The weapon you find also has a long charge up phase which increases tension since you have to charge it while the robot is running at you.

Definitely more lively than the prime games. The movement and speed are the best in the series.

And the boss fights are absolutely next level!

I thought Mario Strikers was NLG's first game with Nintendo. Did they come back for Battle League?

Yeah I just forgot about the older one(s), and yeah they came back to do Battle League on Switch 1.

So basically, all bets are off in terms of what MercurySteam could work on next.

We won't know what else they can do unless Nintendo has them try something new.

This looked great. Watched the direct with the kid who is a huge Nintendo fan. We both thought the combat was kind of giving Doom 2016 vibes with some of the weird execution move looking clips.

Imagine a Metroid where you could brutally eliminate enemies. Preferably in this 2D style. Would be amazing.

One of the things I loved most about Dread was what an absolute badass they made Samus, and I'm very happy they seem to be pushing this angle just as strongly with Ravenous.

Just from what we've seen so far, she kicks arse incredibly hard and really lives up to her name as the galaxy's greatest bounty hunter. We've come a long way from the weak portrayal of Other M. She's cool and capable, but still human, it's a tough balance to strike and one many games don't get right, here's hoping they nail it just as well this time around.

OMG. I just realized. Samus ship was shot and it crashed in that moon.

... is ADAM ok? I swear if they "kill" ADAM I'm gonna be so pissed :(

Thought the same. No Adam to guide you along presumably. I think this is a good change having her really lost this time. And make her even more pissed off. Is she going to steal the assassin's ship?

You’re right! I mixed up the two.

Thanks for the answers, much appreciated.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I pretty much never do this, but I pre-ordered the special edition. Couldn't pass up the steel book. Samus is one of my favorite characters ever. That trailer was incredible.
