Forums - Nintendo - Metroid Ravenous announced, coming to Switch 2 January 28th 2027

Maybe its me, but i first saw this as a NS2 upgrade for Dread... and it probably could have been. I guess they had enough content to make it its own thing.

I honestly think Dread is better than Super Metroid at this point. Super is still amazing tho. Dread is probably the best 2D Metroid. I've been playing Metroid since NES

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

There had been talk of this game for a while now but to see it in action was great; definitely the highlight of the Direct for me. With this and the "physical" Resident Evil games, January is gonna be a great month for Switch 2.

Ridley: "Cancel plans to resurrect me. I'm not going near this Samus".

Dread was one of the best games on Switch 1 in my book, so a sequel that seems to lean further into what made that game amazing is just what I wanted.

Instantly one of my most anticipated games and a great way to kick off 2027.

It looks more fun than Dread to me, I like the music MUCH better, and above all, it gives Samus some of her edge back, which she totally deserves after all the genetic abuse she's been put through over the years, no?

This feels like a nice apology for the whole wannabe Marvel superheroes thing that Prime 4 sure often felt like to me. I'm admittedly tough to please when it comes to this franchise, but don't think I've been more genuinely excited for a new Metroid game based on actual footage since Prime 1, no joke, no exaggeration! I love this direction instinctively!

The game's eshop listing seems to suggest it will have a 120Hz mode:

I’m looking forward to this.

Very cool. This along with maybe OoT are the first 1st party games on S2 that strongly interest me.

Did not remotely expect a 2D Metroid game, I guess it's been like 7 years since Dread, but I remember people were saying (maybe even Nintendo said?) that Dread closed out the Metroid story of the 2D games. So I wasn't expecting another 2D Metroid for many more years, and also cuz Prime 4 recently came out so didn't expect nearly back to back Metroid games.

Dread was such a great game it's cool to see them doing a direct sequel in the same artistic and gameplay style as Dread. Ravenous was definitely the coolest part of the Direct.

Ii just watched the trailer 3 times in a row ... I want this game.
