When will marketing begin ramping up for GTAVI?

A thought just dawned on me: August 2026 is next week. This means that Grand Theft Auto VI, which will arguably be the (commercially) largest video game release up until now, is releasing in just over three months.

Where on earth is GTAVI? For a game that was revealed nearly three years ago at this point, it’s shocking that nothing more than a cover art reveal has dropped in this calendar year.

A game like GTA doesn't need marketing. The name GTA is the marketing. Simple posts accumulated hundreds of millions of views. Don't recall where I was reading that the game has supposedly already made $1 billion in pre-orders lol.

I wouldn't expect much marketing for another month or two.

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

The fandom itself is hyping these game to oblivion and making it part of most conversations that they probably dont need that much marketing lmao

GTA6 is on course for a 99 meta and 50m day 1 sales. R* isn’t going to show anything.

They might not be sure how to advertise it tbh. I mean the game wont be as "crude" as past GTA games, so it might come off as a bit boring for longtime fans in a trailer. There will never be a character like Trevor again. Getting a prostitute is probably not possible since you play as a couple. Probably not a "fight the power" story since Rockstar has become the power. Just a basic cops and (nice) robbers. Not a big deal to most gamers, but it might be a reason as to why they are staying quiet. This game will sell no matter what though, so it doesnt really matter. Im really curious how this game will turn out and what longtime fans and newer fans will think of it.

I fear they made a very bland game based on the last trailer, chasing kids and not the fanbase. I think this one might be a dud. It'll be a very high production dud if so and that'll add to it but I see very little of grit in this game, no humor, no satire, just basically copying real florida as a note for note... ugh idk, maybe I'm just picking it up wrong.

They probably don’t have anything interesting to show anyway.

And people wonder why there's so little activity here anymore, when the correct answer can be found within the first responses to a thread - just like this. I was coming to say this but it was already said.

I might add that once the game is released, word of mouth will spread anyway, and as long as the price doesn't drop, sales will continue to be awesome for probably a good while, so just releasing the game will probably be great 'marketing'. This is GTA, people will learn about it sooner or later, especially if they're interested. Actual marketing will probably add to the success, but it's probably way less important than with most games.
