The Playstation 5 is reaching it's 6th year, as Switch 2 is a bit over 1 year old.

Switch 2 is at 21.01 Million and Playstation 5 is at 92.55 million as of June 2026.

When do you think Switch 2 will catch up with the Playstation 5?

Probably 2030.

Switch 2 probably won't hit 100 million so never

If Switch 2 isn't hitting that, lol good luck to PS6 and XBox Helix. Consoles are headed for ruin and that will mean effectively AI has dismantled the business. 

Gaming hardware sales discourse is in such a weird state… with all the unknowns at play as far as the world economy and chips are concerned, there’s no telling.

But just for the fun of shooting a shot: 2032. Seven years on the market with close to 20mil sales per year on average, I feel this is a sensible guess.

That would mean you see the PS5 reaching around 140 million units, shich I would call a bold statement.

2030 was my guess because I don't see the PS5 having long legs. It is already having poor numbers, it will have a last spur with GTA 6 and then its downhill.

Reaching +100M console is no small feat.

It will depend on the price of the hardware over the coming years and the quality of upcoming games. The Switch got off to a very promising start—with extremely strong sales despite, imho, a mediocre initial game lineup—but there’s no guarantee that momentum will continue.

If the PS5 was $650 at launch it wouldn't hit 100 million. Fortunately it was $500 for a few years. Switch 2 will be priced at $500 soon and it will get at least another price increase after that so hitting 100 million might be difficult 

If Switch 2 can't even hit 100 million it means very bad things for Sony and MS, because it means essentially AI pricing will sewer the entire next generation and it will affect them even worse. 

So a gen that looks like 90 million Switch 2, 50 million PS6, 10-12 million XBox Helix could be incoming.
