Honestly, even Steam is trash. They ask $20 for Arkham Asylum and then put it "on sale" a few times a year. Meanwhile I can just buy an old PS3 copy for $5. And Steam allows Denuvo.

Very poor example. You can always get the Steam version of Arkham Asylum for under $5, either in the Steam Store or as a key from some of the official Steam partners. Just look in the price history 2012 - 2026:

Also that old PS3 version is limited to 1280x720 at 30 fps.

The PC version is scaling very well, so you can easily play it in 3840x2160 (or above) with 60 fps (or above) without high end PC hardware.

If PS6 is also some kind handheld hybrid it kind of makes sense.

I almost joined the site 20 years ago and in retrospective so much changed, espcially the 'Blu Ray' adoption threads seem all so dumb now.

Anyway in the end if people really loved physical they should have bought more but even third party companies aren't complaining.

The people who love physical have been buying it. As a lazy estimation, if a game iavailable at retail sells 10m, 3m of those millions are physical copies. This is simply me extrapolating from Sonys 4/5 digital figure and accounting for the fact the fact this includes digital only games.

The physical market is still viable and large, but the vast majority of consumers are comfortable with digital and Sony & publishers benefit from pushing things to a monopolised digital storefront with no used market.

That is so anti-consumer. -_-

Yeah, that's one of the benefits of PC gaming. Don't want to buy a key directly from Steam? Check Green Man Gaming, Humble, GameBillet, G2A, Fanatical, etc. Chances are, it's always going to be cheaper than buying directly from Steam.

Don't want to use Steam? There are options for competing storefronts. You're not limited.

What do we do if physical gaming media disappears completely? -_-

This will hopefully reignite the lawsuit & discussion about the PS store monopoly.

Suddenly this also makes GKC look somewhat future proof and ask the question whether Sony will do a similar thing

How are they somewhat future proof?

Sony has mentioned a lot their intention to monetise their userbase in response to RAM crisis etc. I don't think people expected they meant this but it will overnight increase their software revenue by double digits at the very least.

In allowing a second hand market (not future proof in regards to game preservation/offline experiences)
