Wouldn't that invite mice, snakes, mosquitoes and other unwanted guests?

Well can't have half of nature. I live in the Netherlands, so no snakes or mosquitoes really. I have most of my garden just growing and it attracts a lot of bees, butterflies, birds and the occasional cat roaming around.

Agreed.  I plan on putting up a bee nest/house in my yard, towards the back, because they are important to nature.

The diversity here is so, so much better than in recent years. I seen dragon flies today, multiple, I hadn't seen one of those in years. The density of small flies hugely improved. Lots of many legged creatures and beetles that were strangely missing the last few years. It is really great to see.

I've been observing the last week and there is an incredible boom in insects for this nearly in the year. Right now it's like the hight of summer minus the house flies/blue bottles. The birds returned also en masses and are noticeably louder. Even the Daddy long legs are floating about. This is a considerable improvement, most noticeably bumble bees and honey bees, the latter is so strange to see around my parts but their off working hard.

I need to get more flowers around my house to get more bees.

Does it help to put the nest somewhere warm? Like where there's lots of sun?
