Forums - Sales - Bloomberg: Nintendo to cut Switch 2 production by 30%

Can a mod plz add in the full bloomberg newspost.

Bloomberg is reporting that Nintendo will be lowering production plans for Switch 2 this quarter by 30%, lowering the units planned from 6 million to 4 million. While Nintendo themselves haven’t commented on the matter, sources “familiar with the matter” told Bloomberg that Nintendo is making this move following slower-than-expected Switch 2 sales during the holiday season. Nintendo will also apparently continue this reduced production rate into April 2026.

I’m staying off the internet today😂

Mochizuki's not the most reliable source, as his track record is a mixed bag, so I'd take this with a grain of salt.

Last year in October he claimed Nintrendo were making 25 million Switch 2s by this March, (www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-10-17/nintendo-switch-2-production-plan-25-million-units-by-march-2026) despite their forecast being nowhere near that, so this could be him attempting to explain what happened to those 5 million or so extra Switch 2s he claimed were coming.

Yeah, what a BS "analyst" lol. 6 million units planned for this quarter would equal 24 million units per year... and that's without taking into account increases in production to stock up for the holidays. Nintendo never forecasted Switch 2 to sell that many units this fiscal year or this quarter. He's just trying to make his prior statement seem more plausible.

It's like Apple rumors: Apple is constantly on the verge of releasing a new iPhone with x feature or announcing a new product "next month". And then, when the date rolls around and passes or the features haven't been announced, these "analysts" always say "yeah, my prediction wasn't wrong. But Apple had to change plans." Yeah, of course. (Some people, like Mark Gurman, actually make a living out of this nonsense).

Switch 2 was never going to sell as well as the first one, even in the best-case scenario. Switch 1 was innovative, whereas the second iteration doesn’t really do anything new besides offering more power. I must admit, though, that it did bring us paid tutorials.

Yeah this same guy, Mochizuki, insisted that a 4K Switch Pro was imminent back in 2021, which of course never happened.

Both Nintendo and Sony have had to come out and issue statements shutting down his claims on multiple occasions.

The whole industry and many sources got behind the 4k Switch though. Digital foundary who don't play much in the rumour world were like they were definitely aware of hardware. I genuinely think the 4k Switch just got cancelled. They've never peddled rumours just for the sake of it.

"I think at one point internally, from what I can understand from talking to different developers, is that there was some sort of mid-generation Switch update planned at one point, and that seems to be no longer happening. And thus, it's pretty clear that whatever they do next is going to be the actual next-generation hardware."

Production doesn't mean selling through to consumers in that same period though. The same way that Nintendo was comfortably able to revise up from 15m to 19m in november, I imagine there would be some buffer for them to go above 20m for this FY whilst also allocating stock for April. I do wonder what their forcast is for next year because it sounded like they really wanted to max out on units.

"The current rise in memory prices is happening at a pace that exceeds our expectations. In general, the profitability of hardware tends to improve with economies of scale, and we want to continue to reduce costs as much as possible through mass production of Nintendo Switch 2 hardware."

For sure the systems performance fell short in December and this year after its record start, so them adjusting forecasts make sense. Whether its this quarter thats being impacted or next FY. Either way it's not really a major concern, It's just falling back to more realistic levels. Anything which reingnites a bit more fire underneath their butt is good in my books.

It's possible, but "we weren't wrong, plans just changed!" is awfully convenient for them.

There's also plenty of other times Mochizuki has been wrong, he's just not that reliable.
