Forums - Sales - FF7 Remake apparently off to a strong start on Switch 2

I basically triple-dipped mainly because it is a great port that I wanted to support and I also wanted to see how well the game looked on Switch 2 (beyond the demo.) Have and played the game on PS4/PS5 and PC. Originally beat it on PS4 Pro, and this feels like a similar experience, except portable. Game is enjoyable enough to replay, so no loss triple-dipping in my opinion.

Been playing it on my 13 inch OLED portable monitor, that I have sort of make-shifted into a Switch 2 AIO (3D printed a custom "dock", and velcro'd it on the back of the monitor; use third party adapter for docking.)

To throw in my two cents as someone who bought it, I didn't grow up with Final Fantasy and didn't have a PS4 in the 8th gen, so the game passed me by when it first came out.

Recently, I've been making more of a conscious effort to try out things that normally wouldn't be my cup of tea, as I found I was missing out on a lot of great experiences by sticking too closely to my comfort zone when it came to games, and having bought a Switch 2, I'm keen to try out my new system, so when a demo for FF7R dropped on Switch 2 last month I gave it a go, found I enjoyed it, and so took the plunge and grabbed the full game.

I don't really watch playthroughs of games, so while I do know some of the basics of FF7 through pop culture osmosis, it's still a mostly new experience.

You are in for a treat, the game is really really fun.

Yeah I'm only in Chapter 4 but it's a lot of fun so far.

Tifa is such a babe, though haven't properly been introduced to Aerith yet.

Final Fantasy VII Remake limited early purchase edition is currently Top paid game #9 on the Xbox US store.

Genuinely surprise it wasn't on your radar before. Do you not normally play RPGS?

I read this as you haven't played the original??!!??

Old and dated in some regards, but if you haven't played the original, dude, it is still well worth playing.  Better than the remakes by a good margin.  FFVII (IMO) is still Square's best.  My favorite rpg till Expedition 33 came out.

Do we have any estimates what the sales figures could be. I remember FF7 Remake was 7 mil on PS4/PS5/PC as of 2023. It's been 2 years since then, surely it must be at least 8 mil on the Playstation platforms. That means we only need about 2 to 3 mil on the Switch 2 to break into the 10 mil club.

I think its going to hit above 10 mil relatively quickly if it hasn't already.

I've always had a tendency to stick very closely to my comfort zone, (something I am working to overcome) and JPRGs as a whole were never really my cup of tea with a few rare exceptions. I'm not massively into RPGs as a whole as I can sometimes find them a bit overwhelming, though I have enjoyed some like say Witcher 3 or Mass Effect.

Turn-based gameplay just isn't my thing, no matter how hard I try I just can't enjoy it.

Fair.  Though if expedition 33 hits the S2, turn based aside, give it a go.  Has a dodge and parry system, so feels modern even though it is turn based.

Cheers; my gf actually already picked it up on PS5 so I may give it a go there sometime, probably won't be my thing but it can't hurt to try.
