Was a reviewer who said that it was made worse than if AI had made it which is a crazy insulting statement, not least because the movie looks absolutely fantastic. Just really absurd hatred in these reviews, honestly. 

I'm sorry, but did we watch the same movie? Maybe I'm getting old, but I had a feeling they changed writers multiple times in the middle of production - and they were all high on Adderall. Very rarely do I get annoyed while watching a movie, but this one managed to pulled all the right strings for me. Long story short, thanks to this clusterf&*$% of a story, it was just mid. The first one was so much better.

Here's the one I was talking about:

"This movie was written by AI. That is actually a FACT (allegedly). Of course they are going to make a sequel this is a huge franchise that will get viewers even if it sucks and is AI written SLOP."

Actually a fact, allegedly? That sounds contradictory.

Just watched the movie, and honestly it was incredibly mid. And this is coming from someone who overall enjoyed the first one.

This movie felt more like they just wanted to stuff the movie with so much fan service, but at the expense of an incredibly thin forgettable plot and poor pacing.

Im obviously not expecting the most interesting plot in the world out of a Mario movie, especially from a game series known to be safe when it comes to its story and for a movie meant for kids to enjoy, but even with that expectation in mind its story felt too uninteresting overall and something I wouldn't really care to revisit or watch again. The first movie, while having a relatively simple plot, still had a decently interesting story and was more memorable for me.

In terms of the good parts of the movie, yea all the cameos and references were cool, but they banked on that too much to carry the movie. The animation was beautiful and it was cool watching some of the fight sequences, but the action sequences took up too much of the movie which didn't allow the plot to develop or get very interesting.

I think this movie is good enough for kids to watch to keep em busy, they'll be easily entertained by this movie, and maybe even adults once. But it's definitely not one of those movies I could see one wanting to revisit and think "hey, lets watch this movie again". It felt incredibly safe and forgettable.

The film's composer Brain Tyler wrote a good portion of the soundtrack from hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage, says the score contains over 300 references

I liked it better than the first one. If they really wanted to push the story, the main aspect of the movie could have been milked for more emotion if they wanted to. Peach and Rosalina are actually the main characters of the story, but you get the idea anyway. It's sort of like Disney's Frozen-Lite, which was fine. 

My kids are already asking to see it again.

The "world" of this game is much more interesting than the more vanilla New York/Mushroom Kingdom of the first movie (with a Mario Kart interlude), it feels like a much bigger adventure and visually it's a very impressive looking film.

I think they could have trimmed the T-Rex sequence a bit and added an extra couple of minutes to the ending. 

Even though Miyamoto won't admit it, they are totally setting up for either a Smash Brothers movie or just a Nintendo character mash-up movie, there's no way you can watch that and not come away with that impression.

Adults gnashing their teeth that the movie needs to be more daring or something ... like the Super Mario stories in the games are virtually non-existent or terrible (Super Mario Sunshine), there's no lore there really to draw from. Given that, this is fine for the characters and the world, they don't have a ton to work with. The movies are fun for kids and if you're not super serious about it, adults too, and that's all they need to be. 

For what it's worth, I enjoyed this a lot more than Moana 2 and the live action Lilo & Stitch remake or the Mufasa Lion King "sequel" I had to take my kids to, granted of course I love Nintendo characters. 

The score was better than the first movie (and thankfully no licensed music outside of one funny sequence for Yoshi), but man it was also like being jerked around because you'd hear great sounding themes from the games but they would abruptly keep yanking the music away. 

Took the kids to see it. Honestly, loved it. I thought the first was ok. I think they realized mario doesn't have a strong story, this isnt the last of us. So just a bunch, and I mean a bunch, of Easter eggs on their titles. It was amusing and entertaining.

I didn't know he needed a hospital!! :( 

Also, someone said they saw Samus Aran's gunship at one point in the movie, but I didn't see any ship that looked enough like it.
