Prince of Persia The Lost Crown

A good game people didn't give a chance because of Ubisoft reputation. You can put here any good EA or Ubisoft game released in the last 4~5 years really...

Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Pretty mediocre game, but it would easily sell as much as the first two games (which are also mediocre sorry Dragon Age fans, this IP is simply not good) if the current political landscape was not so divisive

Starfield

A Bethesda™ game through and through , which also means it's boring in exploration with very light RPG elements. The real issue here is a clear open-world fatigue, with people getting increasingly bored with this kind of gameplay loop. The visual espetacle is also no longer a selling at this generation of diminishing returns and many games looking good enough. If this game was released maybe in 2011 it would have been a sucess

Metal Gear Solid 2 is the obvious example for me, it came out at 2001 with themes that are extremely relevant today, and received a newfound appreciation in the MGS fanbase in recent years. It also helps that MGS4 made Raiden cool.
I almost want to say Tears of the Kingdom came out too early too. Could you imagine if it was a Switch 2 launch title, with all the S2 Edition improvements out of the gate?

The themes were relevant in 2001 as well with the massive disinformation campaign to support Afghanistan and Iraq invasions. "They hate us for our Freedom', "WMD in Iraq". People just didn't see it yet back then... The media manipulation was already in full swing and remote controlled warfare with private mercenary armies (Blackwater) as well.

Agree on TotK, I would have lined up for a midnight launch if TotK was a Switch 2 release title. Now I'm waiting for the next Zelda before getting the Switch 2. Plus they would have had more time to flesh out the Depth and the Sky islands and increase the limits for builds and duration/distance in which everything resets.

Another comparison is the Resistance trilogy. Each new Resistance game was released alongside a new release in the original Gears of War trilogy lol. Gears of War was definitely the better trilogy, but Resistance deserved to have been a bigger success.

Lost in Rain-PS3

If you like games like Ico, then you should give this game a try. I loved it. It's also sometimes just titled "Rain", it's a great game where you play as a boy who can only be seen in the rai,n and like Ico, lead a girl as danger chases you. A monster who also can only be seen in the rain. No combat. There is a minor puzzle aspect to everything. The problem is the game was released the same month as the PS4 launch and only on PS3. Had it released a few months earlier or a launch PS4 game I think more people would know about it and talk about it.

And to narrow it down more specifically, all 2016 first-party titles on Wii U. Wii U was effectively dead after Holiday 2015, even if not literally.

Star Fox flopped, and Paper Mario likely flopped as well unless it was really cheap to make.

Recently. Ai Limit released the same day as Khazan which had a well received demo and got all the interest, both the same genre, really stupid move. I haven't played it but apparently a very decent game.

Sin and Punishment Star Successor. 2010 on Wii was not going to get any attention in the West. Granted, it would always be niche, but we now live in a time when people accept more genres, and Switch does so well. I think that if you release that game in 2019 on Switch, it would do a fair bit better.

While it released into obscurity, I'm honestly glad it came out on Wii, as the lightning-fast and precise pointer aiming was the icing on an already delicious cake.

Fantastic game.

I would say DJ Hero came out too late. By the time it was released out rhythm games had been milked to death thanks way too many Guitar Hero and Rock Band releases. From what I read, the game was quite good but many people never gave it the time of day (myself included).

Signature goes here!

Back in 1999 there was an awesome tactical action game Hidden & Dangerous which was quickly nicknamed Commandos 3D, but it was buggy/glitchy as hell and needed a beefy PC. My PC struggled in certain parts, but there was one particular ambush mission which became unplayable when the nazi column appeared, but I could complete it buy placing mines on the road. It was too ambitious for 1999 and unironed.
