I’m curious as to the reason for this thread. @curl-6 was there a certain response you expected from most answers or were you just genuinely curious about what makes someone an early adopter for a Nintendo console.
Like the thread asking whether GTAVI was needed for the Switch 2 to succeed, I feel like this thread is answered within the first couple replies.
I’m not calling out the thread or saying it is pointless, by any means. But mostly it’s just an opportunity for a lot of us Nintendo fans to come in and say how hyped we are for a new Nintendo console/generation. You don’t really need a reason for most of us around these parts. |
Mostly just curious about whether there was a singular system seller like say Mario Kart World or DK Bananza that made it a must-buy right away, or whether it was something more general like "cos it's the next Nintendo." Also just to spark some discussion to pass the time while we wait out the final 8 days til launch. |
All good reasons.
I do think Nintendo is in a rare position for them this generation, and maybe one that Sony fans are more used to. The PlayStation 2 sold without a system seller just on the power of the PS1. If you asked people why they were getting a PS2 at launch they’d say something about it playing all the PS1 games and because it was a PS2, a follow up system to one of the greatest gaming libraries of all time. Ok, some might have also said something about it being a DVD player, but I think that was an incentive and not a reason.
Nintendo truly hasn’t had that luxury probably since the SNES and maybe the N64.
Of course, like both of those systems, Nintendo does have a great system seller ready for launch, which shows that they aren’t resting on their laurels and letting their goodwill and built in library encourage early adoption. The Switch 2 in every sense of the word truly seems to be a successor to the Switch and the library from the Switch 2 promises to be filled with killer must have software. I can’t imagine a scenario where this console isn’t a resounding success. Even if Nintendo doesn’t deliver the goods, the third party support would be able to carry the system. Also, a luxury Nintendo hasn’t had for quite some time and one that Sony has always had the benefit of.
