Forums - Nintendo - For those getting a Switch 2, what sold you on the system?

Although I still don't have one secured, MP4 just like Zelda before it, is reason enough for me. I wanted the best possible experience for Breath of the Wild and I want the same for Metroid Prime 4. Granted I was more hyped for BotW than I am for MP4 but Metroid is still my second favorite single player Nintendo franchise.

The DK title looks really interesting too and I eagerly anticipate the inevitable Splatoon 4. My wife finally got hooked on Splatoon 3 and we really enjoy Clam Blitz and Turf War together. The only downside to that title will be having to buy a second Switch 2.

I’m curious as to the reason for this thread. @curl-6 was there a certain response you expected from most answers or were you just genuinely curious about what makes someone an early adopter for a Nintendo console.

Like the thread asking whether GTAVI was needed for the Switch 2 to succeed, I feel like this thread is answered within the first couple replies.

I’m not calling out the thread or saying it is pointless, by any means. But mostly it’s just an opportunity for a lot of us Nintendo fans to come in and say how hyped we are for a new Nintendo console/generation. You don’t really need a reason for most of us around these parts.

It's a Nintendo console so I was always going to buy it period. But also want to play Mario Kart World, DK Bonanza, Metriod Prime in 4k, and replay TOTK with better frame rates, plus gamecube games.

Nothing really. Unless it becomes clear that the system will be a Wii U style dud early on, then I will definitely get it just because its the next Nintendo console and home to the next generation of Nintendo games.

I was always going to buy it as it is a Nintendo Console, but there are reasons that made me want to have it on day one .

Most important reason: Mario Kart World. I love racing games with exploration and Mario Kart World looks like a Dream Come True.

Third Part Support: I don't only play Nintendo games and seeing the incredible third part support from day one, like Street Fighter 6, Yakuza 0 and Civilization Vii made the Switch the console of choice for me to play these games on.

Power: While I am not interested in Cyberpunk, its port to the Switch 2 shows that the console can play current games with minimal (to my eyes) downgrade. That bodes well for future third party games coming to Switch.

Backwards compatibility will be quite poor for a quite a while and maybe some games won't even get patches to run that are more rare. Lots of reports of problems with Switch compatibility and that was one of the reasons for journalists not getting their Switch 2's until launch day as there was talk of a huge day one patch and Switch compatibility is one of the big reasons for this. I would imagine at least for sometime the best console to run Switch games will be a Switch. Admittedly there could be many other reasons why journalists are not getting their review units as well but that is a possibility.

We should know how much of Switch compatibility on Switch 2 is software and how much is hardware based on how the Switch 2 performs running Switch 1 games with regard battery runtime. The less time you get the more it is emulated. From what I've read its emulation and a software layer and some Switch games may actually run slower on Switch 2 until they get dedicated patches to improve performance and many games will not run properly.

However on the positive side many games will run better and if you pay for the upgrade many games will be massively enhanced.

However we really don't know how it is all going to work out until after launch.

I suspect most people will be better off keeping their original Switches for a while.

You have me wondering now if a Switch 1 will work in a Switch 2 dock. If a person was having issues clearing their backlog of original Switch games on the 2 it would be great if you could just swap consoles on the dock instead of having to have both consoles hooked up at the same time.  I doubt it but it would be a lot cooler if you could.

Boo.  Thanks for the info though.  Personally I don't have much of a backlog for the Switch, so mine will likely go to my bedroom to collect dust in that dock.  I'll replace the switch in my office with the switch 2 and just have an extra dock laying around.

I have the opposite predicament in which I have hundreds of games in my Switch backlog, so the backwards compatibility with potential improvements sounds pretty enticing. But not $450 + tax enticing, so I'm not planning on getting a Switch 2 for at least a couple of years.

I did the same thing with the original Switch and didn't pull the trigger until Nintendo started releasing special editions with unique designs. I got a Smash Ultimate Switch and love how it stands out compared to a standard model, so I'm going to go that route again.

Improved BC.

I'm getting it to finish off my Switch library. If it was based purely of new titles, I probably would not get a Switch 2 2026 or untill a new 3D mario or Zelda arrived.

Mostly just curious about whether there was a singular system seller like say Mario Kart World or DK Bananza that made it a must-buy right away, or whether it was something more general like "cos it's the next Nintendo."

Also just to spark some discussion to pass the time while we wait out the final 8 days til launch.
