Improved BC.

I'm getting it to finish off my Switch library. If it was based purely of new titles, I probably would not get a Switch 2 2026 or untill a new 3D mario or Zelda arrived.

Backwards compatibility will be quite poor for a quite a while and maybe some games won't even get patches to run that are more rare. Lots of reports of problems with Switch compatibility and that was one of the reasons for journalists not getting their Switch 2's until launch day as there was talk of a huge day one patch and Switch compatibility is one of the big reasons for this. I would imagine at least for sometime the best console to run Switch games will be a Switch. Admittedly there could be many other reasons why journalists are not getting their review units as well but that is a possibility.

We should know how much of Switch compatibility on Switch 2 is software and how much is hardware based on how the Switch 2 performs running Switch 1 games with regard battery runtime. The less time you get the more it is emulated. From what I've read its emulation and a software layer and some Switch games may actually run slower on Switch 2 until they get dedicated patches to improve performance and many games will not run properly.

However on the positive side many games will run better and if you pay for the upgrade many games will be massively enhanced.

However we really don't know how it is all going to work out until after launch.

I suspect most people will be better off keeping their original Switches for a while.

You have me wondering now if a Switch 1 will work in a Switch 2 dock. If a person was having issues clearing their backlog of original Switch games on the 2 it would be great if you could just swap consoles on the dock instead of having to have both consoles hooked up at the same time.  I doubt it but it would be a lot cooler if you could.
