Are you really equating the cost of making a device online capable with the cost of the various components needed to make something work as a mobile device? There would obviously be no point of such a model cause people can just not use the online functionality and one that lacked that wouldn't be notably cheaper.

I'm highlighting the logic that you're forced to use something, you aren't plain and simple you can use something how you like regardless of what's in the package doesn't mean what you aren't using isn't key to the platform's success.

The people who only use it docked were forced to pay more for the mobile functionality though. The 3DS had six variants and the Switch is seemingly only getting three so people wanting Nintendo to have just one more Switch 2 variant compared to that is completely reasonable I'd say.

Again 3DS is a poor comparison because all variants of 3DS retained the core concept a relevant comparison is if they released a version with out the touchscreen.

I don't want to get into semantics over the the core concept thing so what I'll say is that it's strange that you're so adamantly against the idea of a home console only model cause if you don't like it you can just not buy one while the people who would like to have one can. I'm unsure how good it'd be for Nintendo business wise but I doubt it could hurt so I'm in favour of it cause it would benefit millions of people while harming basically nothing.

Where did I say I'm against it? Even if I was what it's to you? I'm saying I don't really see the point as the single model does the same thing anyway and that I'm not convinced such skus in the long have made a difference that the current model would have eventually done anyway hence why I can see why Nintendo never bother with a TV version, I wouldn't be surprised if Switch 2 doesn't get a Lite version.

Can we like, actually talk about the thread topic?

This "Switch Home does/doesn't make sense" is derailing the thread.

A very poor comparison. A 3DS without a touchscreen would make a lot of 3DS games impossible to play. That's why it doesn't exist.
I had a DS lite where the touchscreen stopped working... at least I still could play GBA games with it.

How many of the 12,000+ Switch games would be impossible to play without a handheld mode? Less than 0.01% - 0.02%, the rest works fine with a Switch Pro controller. And since a "Switch 2 home" would support accessories like Joy-Con 1 and Joy-Con 2 controllers to be connected, you could even enhance the compatibility by buying/borrowing a Joy-Con.

A "Switch 2 home" could do the same thing (without the mobile option) and it would be a lot cheaper to produce. That's the point.

Nintendo could offer it a lot cheaper without hurting their profit margins and reach additional buyer group, who can't or won't afford a $400+ console. That's the point.

You are welcome.

True it's gotten off track.

The transition from Switch to Switch 2 tbh is more in line of NES to SNES, it's more of building on familiar territory compared to the parkour of the past 30 years but not killing off the Switch instantly to let it run it's course like they did the 3DS is one of the better decisions in how they've gone about compared to back with NES to SNES.

You were arguing against the existence of it so that seemed like a fair assumption to me but fair enough and if you were it'd just be strange cause of what I said. For the point it'd mean people who don't care about the portable functionality would have a cheaper option so all the people out there who never or basically never take their Switch out of the dock would be able to save some money with the Switch 2. I'd be surprised if a Switch 2 Lite doesn't happen since a cost reduction will matter more this time but we'll see what happens by 2027.
