Again 3DS is a poor comparison because all variants of 3DS retained the core concept a relevant comparison is if they released a version with out the touchscreen.

I don't want to get into semantics over the the core concept thing so what I'll say is that it's strange that you're so adamantly against the idea of a home console only model cause if you don't like it you can just not buy one while the people who would like to have one can. I'm unsure how good it'd be for Nintendo business wise but I doubt it could hurt so I'm in favour of it cause it would benefit millions of people while harming basically nothing.
