Forums - Sales - Is it possible for Clair Obscur to outsell Final Fantasy XVI?

Is it possible?

Yes, I think it will 31 56.36%

Maybe, I'm not sure 18 32.73%

No, not possible at all 6 10.91%

Total:55

I think it will have good legs, the reception is very strong.

I don't think it will and raw unit sales don't really tell us much these days but I'm sure it's already more profitable than FFXVI.

Probably not, JRPGs (which this technically isn't, but gameplay and mechanic-wise it 100% is) are very frontloaded.

Metaphor was selling twice as fast, and we still haven't heard of it crossing more significant marks ever since. Even P5 only got to FF numbers through multiple releases and even better reception.

It will likely outsell the Steam version of FFXVI, though it's already almost two-thirds of the way there (~400k vs ~700k).

I'd be surprised if it does.

Though Square Enix's delayed sales/price reduction and drip feed multiplatform release yearly doesnt help much for their games, if they only did full multiplatform releases, they wouldnt have these sales issues considering if everything came out altogether, the games would get decent number of discounts but at the rate of releasing a game on one platform every two years and the price drops lacking because of it, ya the sales wont do good.

i.e. Kingdom Hearts collection, was $25 for the entire collection (alongside KH3) for PS4 few times - however when the games came to Xbox, Switch (digital cloud) and PC years apart - the collection never went below $40 even on PS4.

I'm assuming this will occur with Final Fantasy VII Remake (when the Switch 2 version comes out) and eventually Final Fantasy XVI (when it comes out on Xbox eventually)

I can see FFVII Remake Intergrade not being this cheap on PS5 once the Switch 2 version comes out

Yes. I have progressed the game since my last comment. With the way gamers are going to talk about this when they do the same, I do bel8eve it will have long, long legs. It will surely pass FF16, I have zero doubt now.

This will do better in the long run as it enters not only people's games of the year, easily but Games of all time lists too. It's climbing my right quickly and will be talked and brought up for years, friends will push others and badger them to play it.

Oh , I guess the price helps it too - since its cheaper than FFXVI.

Hard to say, we don't know how much FF16 actually sold, but I think it'll be hard to beat, can't see this game going past 5M right now, maybe if it gets nomined for overall GOTY awards, but once stull like Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Yotei and Switch 2 games get released people are likely to forget it.

FF16 has been on sale many times, I bought it for less than half the price of Clair Obscur and could have got a physical copy for half that price again but it's legs were amputated shortly after release and those cheaper prices could only bring in fuck all. If we were talking revenue, you'd have a point but we aren't, FF has more than 30 years and like 30 games to pull a crowd from.

Anyway, after what I played today I know for sure this game is beating FF16 LT sales.

I thought this too but not a hope in hell after playing more I know this game will not be forgotten easily, it'll be talked about for years, instant classic and it has the benefit of the pricing conversation too as well as out doing AAA games when people are turning away to older games and grabbing those gamers too, the word will spread during the next week.

I mean, you gave Stellar Blade 11 out of 10, and it didn't exactly set the world on fire.
