But its not even made by a Japanese studio....

Doesn't matter really - Lunatic Dawn: Passage of the Book is made in Japan, yet it's as CRPG as it gets.

Well, the C in CRPG doesn't stand for a country but I agree that it doesn't matter. The J in JRPG stands more for the idea and philosophy that genre came from and not who it's made from. As much as a Japanese studio could work on a WRPG.

I know there is much debate but I know for a fact this is a JRPG cause I keep turning around and saying to myself fuck, I think I'm going the right way.

Once you play it, you'll know what I mean. But I suppose it's an FRPG if only a certain country can make a genre. That would make Baldurs Gate 3 a BRPG and Skyrim an ARPG. Very confusing.

Souls games basically are a mix between JRPG and WRPG. You could accurately say Souls games are more WRPG.

Its a turn based RPG just like the Ubisoft South Park RPGs and Costume Quest game are turn based RPGs.

Never heard of the game before, but I'm kinda into the whole idea of the story. I'm occupied with some other games right now and the Switch 2 will arrive in just a few weeks, but I'll get the game eventually.

Nah, man. Play it. It's is extremely JRPG if you are using JRPG as a sub genre and not country of origin. The level design, the menu system, the spells, even the OST and structure of the game is a JRPG. It has more in common with JRPGs than with the rest of them. Even item placement, itemization and the systems beneath building are more JRPG with kinda SRPG depth like Unicorn Overlord, it doesn't need to be anime and have a Japanese dub to be a JRPG which is all it is lacking.

Inspired by Japanese RPGs sure but its 100% not a JRPG.

You wouldnt call Sea of Stars or Cosmic Star Heroine JRPGs either despite them being inspired by one of the best Japanese RPGs - Chrono Trigger.

Dark Souls is inspired by WRPGs but its not a WRPG.

And yes I'll play it, I have it on my wishlist but it doesnt look like a game I would buy year 1.

Edit: Anyways, I dont really like using JRPG as a term to describe a game genre, I'd rather stick with the normal terms like Turn based RPG, Action RPG, SRPG, etc since fans have muddled the term for games that dont really should have any association aside from inspiration.

CRPGs mean Computer RPGs or Classic RPGs.

JRPGs mean Japanese RPGs.

You wouldnt call Lunatic Dawn an American/European RPG just because it took inspiration from early D&D like games from those regions.

Yeah, point exactly - I consider South Park to be western made JRPG, just as Clair Obscur seems to be - overall feel of the game and expectations when it's classified as one, rather than country of origin.

It stands for computer RPG, I'm not sure when that "classic" misnomer began to pop-up.

As said, I would call it CRPG, not JRPG, cause in its structure and gameplay is very much that, akin to something like German Darklands from few years before it - I would never call it JRPG, even though it's made in Japan, just like I wouldn't call South Park WRPG just because it was made in US.
