I think the existence of Donkey Kong decreases the chances of 3D Mario before next year. This trailer of DK felt very "Odyssey" for me, so my theory is they now there is a demand for 3D platformers and has been a while since a DK game was released, so they reused the gameplay mechanics and game design from Odyssey here while they are cooking another 3D Mario for maybe 2026 or 2027 with different game design/direction

i hope you are not right lol, though that would only make sense. Two mega 3D platformers within 3m of each is a bit unrealistic. Curious what they’re planning for the holiday?

I think christmas games will be released in June's direct, Hyrule Warriors was confirmed for winter right? This signal December release, maybe...

I hope they have at least one more first party game for winter. So far I'm inclined to wait a bit and buy my Switch 2 in 2026 until Duskbloods gets released

I was expecting a bit more first-party titles but this was a solid line-up (if we forget about the PAID tech demo!!!). Donkey Kong Bananza looks really great! Loving the June release date, two short months!

Signature goes here!

Yep only Nintedo could charge for a paid game to teach you about your console you just spent $450+ on... I doubt it's astro playroom quality either lol.

DK/MK and Air Ride is a good start. It was a little light on the ground.

The system looks fine. It's a better Switch which I guess is what most people wanted.

The presentation... meh. I feel like they spent a lot of things on stuff like the chat features and mouse features than I think was needed. It's video chat. I use it every day for work. I get how it works.

Third party support looks strong. Easily the strongest any Nintendo system has been at launch. Most excited for Bravely Default although I'm probably in the minority there.

First party was surprisingly thin. It's crazy they're charging for that game that explains the Switch features. Astro Bot did the same thing for free and looked a lot better. The wheel chair basketball game was weird. I think there's a reason dual mouse games have never taken off. The new features on Mario Party and Kirby look cool. I don't mind paying for "upgrade packs" if the prices are reasonable.

The three major first party games they announced all looked great. Mario Kart World looks like a pretty substantial upgrade. DK looks like a really fun 3D platformer and I'm glad that genre is taking off again.I'm actually most excited about Kirby Air Ride. That's a game I thought I'd never see a sequel to and I'm super excited.

Overall it was fine if you just view it as a normal direct. As the official debut of their new system though, I think it fell a bit short.

The upgrade price will be specific for each Switch title?

When and where was the price announced?

My Console Library:

PS5, Switch, XSX

PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, WiiU, Wii, GCN, N64 SNES, XBO, 360

3DS, DS, GBA, Vita, PSP, Android

The Good
-Mario Kart World
-Resolution and 120hz
-Boosted Switch games
-Game Chat
-Third-party support
-Donkey Kong
-Kirby Air Riders
-June 5 Release Date
-Other things I haven't mentioned
The Bad
-Technical issues during the livestream
-Not mentioning the price during Nintendo Direct. It will be $449.99 here in the USA. Why hide that? I wonder if it would've been $399.99 without tariffs but on the other hand it's packed with tech.
-No 3D Mario. Look, I'm thrilled DK is getting a long overdue game. But Odyssey is a masterpiece and there's been no new 3D Mario game in about 7.5 years. Bowser's Fury was something, but it's not a full game. I'm hopeful it could still launch this year given that DK is already out shortly after launch and there's a ton of time for Mario to get announced and launch between October to December. If not, hopefully the first half of 2026 (November 2026 at the absolute latest).
-Charging for the tech demo. I doubt it will be any more involved than Astro's Playroom and that was included with PS5.

469.99€, 509.99€ with MKW in Europe

That was a very good presentation, with some big game announcements.

Mario Kart World looks amazing. The new Donkey Kong game looks... Well, people know what my opinion about modern Donkey Kong game is, but a new 3D game was a good movement, even if I couldn't see any Kremlings.

Hardware is also good enough, better than I was (and probably most people were) expecting. Overall, I had a lot of fun watching it.
