In Europe, for example: Sony fanbase there have been real suckers. So, why not a little more?

Or the Iphone 16, just goes from 799$ to 880$. The pro, at 999$ is probably sold at a good premium, so they might keep it at 999$ to not scare people too much with the price. |
AFAIK import tariffs are paid at customs clearance, not retail. So it's manufacturer asking price + tariff and then sold to retail, not retail + tariff sold to end costumer.
So for imported games for instance it would be more like $30-40 +25%... and then up to retail to tranfer the extra costs entirely or partially with a price hike.

Game companies are multinational constructs, at least for major markets. So software could always be "made" locally even it is really "made" in Upper Silesia.
So tariffs are about stuff that is really moved (which also includes stuff like electricity). The US imports electricity from Canada so if Trump really wants to anger Canada with tariff penalties, lots of US people would pay the price instantly if Canada went one-on-one.
Again, Trump behaves like an 8 year old child. He doesn't care about retortion because he can siphon money at will from his devoted followers.
I really hope the corporations eat some of the tariff costs. It would be awful to pay 25% more for items from Canada and Mexico and 10% from China.
The USA is still the largest video game market (with China very close) so I hope we don't feel the full 10%. But it's not out of the question now for Switch 2 to be around $450 in the USA before any sales tax is added because of tariffs. That or Switch 2 will still be around $400 and other countries will be punished because of the USA's own meddling. PS5 has held steady in pricing in the USA (before these tariffs) yet Sony has raised the price in other countries.
Lifetime Sales Predictions
Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)
PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 40 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million)
PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)
3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Alot of physical disc for games are made in mexico right?
This is gonna cause the physical medium to go up in price... and watch them raise the price of the digital copies as well (for no reason other than greed).

25% tarifs might bring back some farming jobs...
However its not magically going to make more crud oil appear in the US, or have it be easier/cheaper than finding metals in canada.
So it might work on some stuff, while not on others.
This "american first" thing, is about Jobs right? Thats why trump says hes doing it.
Well... for the price on foods from mexico to go up by 25%... thats gonna mean higher food prices in stores.
(your grocery bill just went up) (as if inflation isn't bad enough already... lets add a small trade war too it)
Down the line, like 5-10 years from now, maybe theres a few more american farmers, as a result of these tarifs if he chooses to keep them that long.
Meanwhile you get 5-10 years of paying more every time you go shopping, if you don't want to change your eating habits (if you consumed things that came from mexico).

I think its to match the prices in the rest of the world....
Membership | Old Price | New Annual Price | Increase |
---|---|---|---|
NSO | R$100 | R$120 (~$20.39) | 20% |
NSO Family | R$175 | R$219 (~$37.21) | 25% |
NSO + Expansion Pack | R$262 | R$299 (~$50.80) | 14% |
NSO + Expansion Pack Family | R$421 | R$469 (~$79.69) | 11% |
Supposedly NSO is 19.99$ in the USA. (your paying 0.39$ more, than US consumers)
And NSO+Expansion pack is 49.99$ in the US. (your paying 0.80$ more, than US consumers)
But by the large, its the same (20$ and 50$).
In denmark, NSO is 21$...
