AFAIK Switch cartridges are made in Japan. US blu-ray movies and Xbox physical games are made in Mexico.

I don't see any tarrif regarding Japan, if this is the case Nintendo games will be effectively the only one unaffected in the market which can lead to a significant market advantage for Nintendo

Xbox and Playstation games being sold for 87,5 USD in other hand would be a disaster that will effectively end physical gaming market for both systems. For Microsoft which is going full on service and digital I don't think it's a concern, but for Sony most of its fandom loyalty comes to the fact they still release physical games. Even if Sony wants to go full digital eventually I think this can enter in a dangerous territory where they will lose part of their loyal userbase

The Switch system is assembled in China, as are the PS5 and XS. The cartridges are made in Japan, but Republicans have had a grudge against Japan in the past. Reagan made them sign the Plaza Accord.

I have a feeling Apple etc will find exemption.

Sure. Cook donated to Trump’s gala. He’ll probably agree to have Apple Maps show “Gulf of America” and “ Mt. McKinley.”

I was going to post an image of someone resignedly cracking a beer while watching something valuable burn down but surprisingly couldn't find one. Anywho, that's probably gonna be my mood for the next few years.

10% is fine, 25% is a bit big

About your concern regarding Nintendo, are the physical games not manufactured in US? If so then yes, this means you can expect Nintendo physical to be sold for 80 USD next gen, unless Nintendo accepts to lose part of their profit from physical games or move their physical production to USA

If the physical games are already produced in USA, then I don't think the tarrifs are going to be applied

$60 + 10% is $66, not $80.

If the games are produced in Japan then at least (for now) they'll still be at $60, though if the HW is made in China then it'll be interesting to see what Switch 2 is priced at in the US.

Ironic that people blindly voted for Trump because of propaganda that Biden caused inflation lol and the false idea that prices would magically be lower under Trump, when Trump's entire very clearly stated economic plan was to jack up prices for Americans through tariffs (not to mention the fact that he wants to double down on price inflation since he wants interest rates to drop back to zero though luckily he isn't in charge of that), which he is now starting just two weeks into this sh!t show. It's like no one even paid attention to what he actually planned to do.

As promised. Even if temporary this was a campaign promise kept.

Gives the US negotiating leverage to get what we need.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

Game companies will probably just raise the price in other parts of the world to keep prices low in the US. Its just what they do...

Not worried. US businesses will keep buying, they just pay a higher tax on them.
Two things will happen: either it comes out of the margins of US businesses, or it comes out of the pockets of US consumers. The only harm that comes to the "targeted" countries is that some US businesses will perish, and manufacturers will have to sell their goods to someone else. Other US businesses will then be able to afford jacking their prices because of raised demand.

In the end, it just means higher prices on goods in the US. Also, probably higher construction prices on houses in the US. But will likely help increase the value on property. So if your capital gains tax is low (not sure what it is in the US, but I believe there is a 100,000 USD threshold), this is good for you as a home owner. If you're not a home owner, it will probably fucking suck, because the knock on effect is higher housing prices and higher rent, more chance for land lords to seek evictions - Trump knows how that game works.

Or the Iphone 16, just goes from 799$ to 880$.

The pro, at 999$ is probably sold at a good premium, so they might keep it at 999$ to not scare people too much with the price.

I'm hoping they don't.... usually consoles are abit more expensive in europe compared to the US anyways.
Just means, things will be on more even footing.
