What is everyone’s experience with preordering consoles?

I pre-ordered my Nintendo 64 - and still first got it six weeks after launch because the store where I ordered only received batches of two or three consoles at a time and apparently there were others that had pre-ordered before me. Oh the wait...

I pre-ordered my Series X - I had an idea the Series consoles might be XBOX's last traditional console generation and thus wanted to celebrate the console launch as much as possible and once more pre-ordered. It arrived late afternoon on launch day.

Every other console or handheld I ever owned I just walked into the store and picked it up, and I'll do the same for Switch 2.

Day one for sure for me, just as I have with the Wii, the WiiU and the Switch. That is, assuming I can get one. I’ve always waited in line, but maybe I’ll try the preorder method for the Switch 2. I just hate the idea that my preorder could be stuck in transit or get delayed.

It depends where you preorder them. Fortunally i never had bad experiences i even remembered the NES launch. I got it earlier because a salesman did a releasebreak. That was a party the whole night when i was a Kid. Friends where there. It was an amazing new feeling. Unfortunally on launch day, some days later his console did not arrive because of delivery problems. He had to wait a full month. He was at my place very often playing Super Mario. It was a hell of fun.

Just received an e-mail from Nintendo about the online getting a price bump right before this fiscal year ends. Yay, thank you Switch 2...

Is it global or only happening in Brazil?

Only Mexico, Brazil and Argentina for now.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

Nice, let's fuck up people in countries with lots of gamers but not that much money, because why not.

Almost dropped my PS Plus sub as Sony is doing the same but I always end up getting the discount during the psn mid year sales plus a store credit discount on top of that.

If I do get another system, it's going to be Nintendo's. I don't care for what the industry has become (it's too political, games are too incomplete and barely-tested, and there's too much focus on internet connectivity), but at least with Nintendo, those things will be kept to a minimum. The only thing that would give me pause is the fact that they're a handheld-only company now, and I prefer home consoles. That, and my NES, Genesis and Super Nintendo are just so damn good (8/16-bit gaming is my favorite era) at entertaining me.

But we'll see.

What are all these “political” games people keep talking about. I only play Nintendo, so I guess I just haven’t seen.

Like the TV and movie industry, the game industry is currently infected with people who either think art is an inherent weapon for social change, or art is a chance to convince people that they're on the good side of history, according to them. I don't like that.

As mentioned in another thread, I play games to escape the real world. Mario and Zelda and Sonic let me do that. The rest? Not so much.

Ok, I see your rant, but I don’t see the actual games you’re talking about.

If you can't look at today's games and see a difference from the games released between 1977-2005, then I don't know what to tell you lol. It use to be that people would dream something up, pitch the idea to a publisher, and if it was compelling enough, the game would get green-lit and that was that. Now, there's a checklist involved. And if all those boxes aren't ticked off, it's a no go from the start. And that's not even getting into the development houses themselves (some of them, anyway), which are now populated with people who think it's their mission to change the world with video games. I mean, come on. It's video games, not the freakin' UN, or senate.

Activism has it's place. But with it always comes arguing, debating, fighting, screaming, riots and even murder. In short, it's ugly. Very ugly. And I don't want that anywhere near my video games, movie or TV shows. Those, I go to to breathe for awhile; to get away. So if you're going to put that stuff into your games, I'm going to take one quick look, go nope, and then walk away immediately and find something else to consume.

Like Nintendo games.

Or retro.
