Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch 2 officially announced, switch 2 direct 2nd of April

This is very easily the worst console reveal in Nintendo history. Nevermind the leaks really were all legit and showed everything even the date of this reveal), but that trailer really does nothing for anyone. It doesn’t highlight what’s really different about the system for the non core-gamers who don’t know all the leaks, and for those of us who do, it doesn’t give us any reason to care. Why should we care about the mouse functionality shown briefly in the trailer? The big problem is it was absurd to reveal the console without highlighting the software much at all. It doesn’t help that MK9 looked barely any better graphically than 8D in the tiny bit shown,

So ultimately it really does send the message to everyone that it’s just a slightly better switch. A Switch Pro is really what this reveal said, not this is our next console. Hell, even the OLED had a far better executed and more exciting reveal trailer for casuals and gamers alike.

All I can think here is that Nintendo is having issues with the software and is not ready to launch the system until maybe late this year now, and they were not planning to reveal because of that until everything leaked. This just seems so messy, and feels like a Wii U level bad omen. The one good thing is we know for sure they’re naming it Switch 2. Anything else would have been an absolute disaster with how much it just seems like a switch from that trailer in terms of casuals not understanding it’s not just a hardware revision. Now it all falls to the games showcase to turn this ship around.

Rebirth is a true PS5 game, to the point where it's not even a great experience on Base PS5 visually in performance mode.
If Switch 2 can get that game without it being too much of a hassle/expensive to port, then I'm pretty confident that anything goes, and it won't commonly miss out on big third party releases, like Switch 1 did.

I wouldn't say it's a true PS5 game. It was built with last-gen tech that has allowed the devs to down tune it to the point the game now being able to be labelled as "Verified" on the Steam Deck. A PC that has the power of a launch PS4.

Unreal Engine has just never been kind to open world games.

Yeah, not in the sense of the technology, but how demanding it is of the system. When its at the point where its struggling, (unless its due to particularly poor optimization), then that to me is a high bar.
Technology wise would be something like Ratchet with the nvme rapid world loading. Though most games including that one can be downgraded to older platforms. They just may not reach a standard that the devs are comfortable with.
Interesting though that they're ok with it on Steam Deck but not PS4.

Jeez, calm down, it's just a reveal not a hardware showcase. There is plenty of time to show more about it. It communicates that is a new console coming, it's a continuation of original Switch and you will carry your library. It's a pretty good presentation. Reminds me PS5 reveal trailer, simple and efficient

I understand not being a fan of the reveal video (I personally wish it did more), but I don't think it was that bad considering how much worse the Wii U reveal was back then than today's reveal of the Switch 2. I mean, Nintendo made the Wii U look like an accessory instead of a brand new console at the time.

I don't know about that. From what I've seen, it seems a good amount of people got the message that the console is the Switch successor, not the Switch Pro.

Regarding the third paragraph, you make it sound like as if Nintendo didn't learn how to optimize games in HD back in the Wii U era. I think they're gonna do just fine.

We'll know about the Switch 2's lineup by April. In the meantime, we'll find out what third party/indie games are coming to the system.

Meh reveal, I'll feel excited about it until they show more games.

Thank fuck they decided to be sensible; no confusing name, no weird gimmick, just a better Switch clearly designated as Switch 2.

So far, so good.

System looks quite nice also, gives a premium vibe similar to the Switch OLED. Mario Kart from what little was shown looks appealing; more karts per race should increase the chaos that makes the series so much fun.

Ok, I'll say that I'm whelmed from what was shown ultimately knowing what was there because of the leaks which definitely reduced the surprise factor in any way it could of.

But it does look like a better more premium designed Switch which is honestly what they ought to do since there isn't that much you can inherently change with the base system.

The name ? Seriously not a fan, but I understand the clear message behind it. I'll feel free to call the Super Nintendo Switch anyway lol 😂

New MK game revealed with only a few seconds ... There's a lot of details to gleen from it but there's also so much you can do because it's basically a lil teaser not representative of the full game at all.
And it does look much better than MK8 in some obvious ways if you look at the characters/kart models, the better shadow draw distance.

Can't say the desert map would be the best showcase for it but it's more than fine at a first glance. (And if it keeps their budget well under control, all the better)

Also to some y'all, stop it with the concern trolling. You're underwhelmed because you drank the leakers kool-aid alright, but Nintendo clearly has a clear strategy in hand and the message here is more clear and concise than anything we got from the WiiU.

Great!

The fact that it looks like just a more powerful Switch had me slightly disappointed, since one thing I like about Nintendo is that they always try to bring something new with their creations. But I'll wait until April 2nd before judging it.

Worst Nintendo console reveal ever...?

The giant 2 is clearly saying it's the successor to the Switch. They also showed a new interesting game (Mario Kart 9).

This is already way better than the Wii U reveal, where a) it wasn't really clear what the Wii U was and b) they didn't show any real games, only shitty tech demos (the Zelda one looked really good though so there's that).

Also... this obviously is not a Switch Pro. I don't get why people keeps saying this, there's a huge ass 2 on the logo of the console lmao. They couldn't be more clear than that.
