I'm OK with Astro Bot getting the award, althought I was hoping for FF7 Rebirth to win.
Overall it was a good show with some good World Premieres. I'm excited for Ninja Gaiden Ragebound, and there were a few other titles that got me interested.

Is there really going to be an "OH SHIT" moment? | |||

Literally stated that he had prepped his acceptance speech for "Best Game in the World" (aka The Grand Award at Geoff's Advertisement Festival) back in 2022 |
He really did that? Those people really have no media training do they?
As for Nintendo fans, Mario had a total of one 3D platformer released in the award shows era which is Odyssey and lost to... Zelda
Have anyone noticed how Metaphor won RPG, narrative and art direction over Final Fantasy?
You maybe call me crazy but looks like Final Fantasy was not a contender at all. The fight was Metaphor vs Astrobot

"The games nominated this year are all excellent, but I really don't understand the selection criteria for this year's Game of the Year. I came here for nothing!" "The speech for the annual game was written two years ago, but it was not used" "From yesterday to now, I have also seen strong dissatisfaction, unwillingness and unhappiness in the comments of many players - most of them expressed in a humorous and deconstructive way, which is hilarious. I can fully understand these unwillingness and sympathize with these unhappiness, because I know that behind these emotions, it is not pain and malice, but self-esteem and self-confidence."
It wasn't the Lead Producer though, it was the CEO, Lmao. Which is even worse.
Comes across as arrogant and a sore loser, it's the lowest rated Metacritic of the nominees and still received a nomination, they should be grateful for the nomination alone, Astrobot and others were more than deserving winners. Also some of those "unhappy fans" tried and utterly failed to review bomb Baldur's Gate 3 because Swen presented the award which is fucking insane, Lol.
I also find it funny how people often say players voice is a lot better than critics choice, but Black Myth won Players Voice and yet all the CEO is moaning about is not winning the critics choice, Lmao. Disappointment at not winning is understandable but his response is just, yikes, Lol. Maybe it's a translation error or humour lost in words but it doesn't really look like it, Alanah Pearce also mentioned that someone on the Black Myth team were crying when Astrobot was announced as GOTY...Get a grip man, it's a celebration of the industry, not just your game.

Agreed, as a Nintendo fan I don't understand the people who are upset with this.
I haven't played Astrobot, but it looks like a charming game. Its creators clearly love Mario and list that series as a big influence, and its not like Astrobot beat a mainline Mario title to take the prize. I guess some people are bitter about the newer series having an award while Mario doesn't, but you've gotta consider the competition each game is up against during the year they release.
Oh boy the guy from Wukong saying he wrote the speech as the winner years ago and is mad that he wasn't the winner is just so ridiculous...

The main results of this year were in non-gaming news here. I'd say that's relevance. |
It shouldn't be. These awards are basically little more than a vehicle for Dorito Pope to act like some big celebrity and fanboy over Hideo.

Well, they are, and that's it. Bluntly, I'm not interested in debating the merits of the event.

That's good, because the actual awards have no merit. They're flimsy bullshit designed to give some justification for the ad dollars. I'm frankly laughing at the Game Science CEO throwing a tantrum over some inconsequential American awards show, as well as the folks who are outraged on his behalf.

OK, thanks for letting me know when I clearly didn't care.
