Nintendo Switch Pocket a Good Idea?

Nintendo should release a Switch Pocket. It's exactly what it sounds like, a smaller version of the Switch Lite that actually fits into a normal sized pocket.

I am surprised they haven't done this already.

There is precedent of course. Nintendo released the Gameboy Pocket, the Gameboy Advance Micro, and the 2DS Bread Edition near the end of those platforms' lifecycles.

A smaller version of the Switch capable of playing all the games would be neat and could move a few million units. It would make a great first game system for kids.

Nintendo would have to figure out the pricing though. I'm not sure if they want to sell something for $150 or lower. It has to be under the price of the Switch Lite though.

What do you think?

Eh, I wouldn't buy it personally, but what do I care what Nintendo decides to release?

I've long loved this idea, but I was responded to on this forum with a reminder of Switch Lite's size. It is bigger than PS Vita for instance, but not as much as I thought.
A Switch Pocket probably would not have a fan (too much space required) and would rely on passive cooling. I see overheating occurring in games like The Witcher 3 and even some Nintendo titles.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 40 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

I actually think one last revision for the Switch would be a good idea, to squeeze as much money out of it as they can before moving on. Successes like the Switch don't come along very often, may as well milk the hell out of it while you can.

I expect the successor to be $400-500 USD, so either a pocket version or a Switch TV at a cheap price point could continue to sell for years as a budget option.

I would buy a Switch Micro.

I don't know man. The default Switch joycons are already very uncomfortable, this would only be worse.

Also, it would need a significant die shrink to be viable in terms of battery/heat, which alone would probably outprice the reduction in cost from the other components. So...

I think a switch TV is the better choice market wise. A much cheaper and smaller unit.

But the only new switch model I would buy at this moment would be the one described in the op. A handheld unit small enough to fit in a pocket. i do not know if this is viable though, mostly because it would need a smaller battery and the playtime for switch in handheld is already on the shorter end. I still prefer bringing my DS lite when travelling since I can play that thing for 15 hours+ on one charge.

Actually yes, it would probably be easier to make by now than at the time of the lite and an excellent entry point for the system(s). It's probably too much work for R&D compared to the much smaller returns than their new system though so I doubt they would prioritize it even if it could win over new customers.
