I might become a pro user with the ps6. The transition period from ps4 to ps5 was (is?) incredibly long. All the relevant games release on the ps4. And with deminishing returns this is boubd to get more pronounced with the ps6. So I just wait with my base ps5 until the ps6 pro is released (the time where old ps5 gen might start to get left behind) and from there on out, it is only pro consoles for me.
Or, alternatively, I will not be able to wait it out and cave in for a base ps6. Who knows if a ps6 pro is even going to be a thing.

I thought the digital foundry videos made it sound like that wasn't the case.

Also stuff like this:

Makes me think, its atleast not useless OP.
This seems like a noticable differnce in performance and visuals.
Like base PS5 quality mode, at 30fps... is being matched in visuals and running 60fps.

To some people that might be of value.
Same with games that use raytracing.

My whole argument is the distance from the couch and the size of the TV. I asked a lad on YouTube comments what size his TV and the distance and he said 43" at over 8 feet maybe 10, this won't make a lick of difference to him. Honestly people are going to need 70" inch TV's at less than 8 feet and people with those size TV's have big rooms or game on a monitor 4k monitor at a desk.

framerate and RT are going to be noticeable with ease, regardless.

Doubt it, the PS5 Pro will not sell even close to the PS4 PRO. Won't be worth it for Sony especially with the hit to PR this thing has cause.

Worth the money if you didnt buy a PS5

Waste of money if you already have a PS5.

This pretty much sums it up. It's good value for money if you don't have a PS5 already. Hard to justify if you do.

Although I am a little tempted, ngl.

Unless you sit unreasonably close to the TV or have a 90+ foot TV set/projector. Sitting at a reasonable 10 feet from my 50 inch I can't see shit all difference between fidelity and RT performance mode in Rachet and clank which is the lowest resolution setting against the highest. At 5 feet still can't see much of a differnce but the image very slightly pops a little more, now get on it at three feet it starts to become apparent and the clarity increase isn't apparent unti you get two feet from the TV, It takes getting real close and identifying the clarity. RT modes are nice but they're still so weak that it just looks like a contrast boost unless you're very close to a light source or directly over water or beside a glass reflection.

With the way the PRO is being utilised it is the most useless, overpriced piece of tech. Perhaps on a 70" screen at a reasonable distance it'll make the image pop more but for we the majority with 50 inches give or take ten, it's not gonna be noticeable again, at a reasonable distance.

I bought the PS4 PRO and that was a big step up, really noticeable with a new 4k TV while comparing to my old 1080 set with the base pS4. Not a generational leap but a really big bump up and also brought around the Performance/fidelity modes we see on the ps5 today. Shadow of the collosus remake was actually kinda mind blowing and pretty close to a generational leap as we knownit today. Now, for this machine to be worth it's price tag it really has to make use of the hardware to actually make the graphics better, the devs using it in the same way PC graphics scale as you up the settings. Spending 800-875 euro for an image that'll pop slightly more to the eye is wild.

Please, prove me wrong. I've only seen one game where this hardware is justified and that is Dragons Dogma 2, the devs were actually able to optimise the game properly with the new hardware. Perhaps in the future we will see it utilised in this manner and it'll be worth the upgrade.

It's funny you mention PS4 Pro because Oliver from Digital Foundry claims the leap is bigger then that. I planned on getting it but honestly I was playing DD2 and the game was running and playing fine for me. I also thought it looked amazing. I'll probably get it anyways because I can just trade in my PS5 and get the Pro but I'm not super excited about it. I do just want the best gaming experience I can get on consoles and the money isn't that big of a deal to me but I understand to others its a lot to ask.

If it really is that good then it'll end up taking the next gen feel out of upgrading. Did for me with PS4 PRO and PS5 but I still don't believe them, these guys are locked in to the most minute detail and are obviously playing on moniters up close. They do not reflect my setup, same as many reviewers of the 5 PRO. On the reviewers that have something similar to my setup, it's a difference the eyes won't pick up on or very slightly so RT will make things pop more or you need to be hovering aroubd windows and light sources.

If they are saying it's a bigger difference than going from 1080p to vloser to 4k with PS4 PRO. They are lying. Alan Wake 2 at 846p RT mode. 😉

All the Pzro patches incoming for us base Ps5 users too. What a waste of space.

Best thing to do is just go buy it at best buy/target/walmart. All of them have 30 day return policy for whatever reason you want. Just go buy the PS5 Pro test it yourself for a week or so and see if you like it. If not go return it, if you do return it, go trade in your PS5 at gamestop and buy a pro.

As far as Alan Wake 2 the 846p is just the internal resolution. It doesn't really mean much when you are applying PSSR to it and getting it to 4k. That's the whole point of PSSR/DLSS. It allows you to lower the resolution of the game, which then takes pressure off of that hardware and allows you to push other things further. Meanwhile the PSSR/DLSS handles upgrading the internal res to 4K. That's why it still looks amazing even though it's at 846P because PSSR is upgrading that image.

Already blew my budget, chose to get the base ps5 after the PRO announced at 800 euro. Gonna use what's left to add to savings for PSVR 2 or quest 3s or if the Switch 2 impresses, haven't decided yet. I find more avenues to games to be a much better use of money but that's just me. Plus I want the generation gap to feel bigger with ps6.

Nice can't go wrong with the switch 2. I loved PSVR but doesn't seem like enough software is there to make it worth while. Also horror games seem to be the main driver of VR and I can't even handle horror games without VR. I might die if I tried them with VR.
