I've never understood this chapter-based release schedule with Deltarune. Is there any benefit of this over just releasing the full game all at once? I really enjoyed Undertale, never got into Deltarune all too much.

At this point I might just wait till the game is fully finished before continuing it though I would risk getting spoiled on things if I do that.

Actually, it's kinda fun to play the chapters at launch, while trying to figure out what could happen next while waiting the next episodes.

DELTARUNE has a mysterious plot, so I'm trying to make my own theory of what's going on. If I wait to play the game once it's complete, I don't think I would have that much fun.

That's completely fair. For me I'm not into the theorizing aspect with Deltarune that much so like Undertale would prefer experiencing the entire story at once. Though there's spoilers like I mentioned and last I checked there's gonna be 7 chapters so waiting till the 2030's for the complete package doesn't sound ideal thus there's a decent chance I play 3 and 4 when they come out.

The main benefit is giving people something every few years instead of Undertale fans having to wait till the 2030's to play Toby's next game. For Toby himself there's being able to do stuff like sell Deltarune merch since 2018, continue to gain popularity at a steady pace and take feedback at each release into consideration.

Someone say Chapter 3?

I know it's been 2 years since chapter 2, but I'm totally fine with Toby taking the time he needs to go about charting the game per chapter. Like Norion said, we get the benefit of digesting the game in chunks, ones that take in valuable input for future chapters, vs having to wait forever for a new Undertale.

I know some people out there don't like the format due to it's short-form format, but it's honestly better than waiting for years and years with next to no info on what's happening (plus short games are fine, and not every game has to be 50-100+hrs to be enjoyable).

Didn't realize Deltarune was an episodic game up until now.

I mean considering how widely different the first two chapters have felt separated from each other. It's clear the game is going for that episodic style in the early chapters for now .... It's just easier to develop since he doesn't have to dump a big ass 30-40 hour game with a development time of like 10 years.

Considering he began the project with a really small team and has expanded somewhat. I feel like the production schedule has gone quite smoothly considering how ambitious the scope gets with what he has done so far.

I feel like the next 2 Chapters are going to be quite meaty experiences too, so it'll hold us for the next few years
