Forums - Sony Discussion - As a PS/Xbox gamer would you settle for downgraded graphics...

The answer is...

Yes, graphics have gotten... 26 63.41%

No, I want better graphics 7 17.07%

I would but I'd be bummed out. 5 12.20%

Comments. 3 7.32%

Total:41

...if it meant better, more polished and finished games and more of them releasing and more exclusives like Adtrobot. Possibly even return the price back down to 69.99 euro?

Let's say, capped at somewhere between 8th gen graphical fidelity. I know Nintendo gamers have already voted yes in like 2007.

I only support it in a 2-model approach.
If Sony makes a PS6 Junior that's a small leap from PS5 Pro but still releases a PS6 that's well above a PS5 and PS5 Pro, that's cool.
Even then, they should not have the mandate Microsoft has for all titles to run on Series X and S. The S is a bottleneck sometimes.
PS6 Junior - $499.99
PS6 - $699.99
Nintendo has largely been kooky for a lot of their history even when their home consoles were on par in specs to the competition. Also, Nintendo has a history of handhelds. That makes Nintendo's lack of power more acceptable.
PlayStation and Xbox lacking power especially if you don't have two choices of power levels feels wrong.

NSW is a very refreshing system b/c not every game is this massive AAA mega game. Astro was fun for the three weeks I put into it, but playing Zelda EoW with its modest presentation is such a tremendous breath of fresh air...it's exhausting always playing at max graphics.

Absolutely. I had a whole argument mapped out, but I can express myself more succinctly like this: I wish PlayStation and Xbox were more like Nintendo.

Lol this comment entertains me. If you want them to cut out the "lgbtqi stuf", then wouldn't this be considered censorship of the LGBTQIA?

Yes. I have a Switch, A lot of retro consoles, and CRT TVs for them. So I do already. I always miss it despite always having it.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

The best approach for next gen is for Sony and Xbox to dial it back in terms of power (...although they probably wont get a free pass unlike Nintendo cause they can get away with anything)

- have it slightly more powerful than the PS5 Pro.
- focus on smoothing out 4K gaming with consistent 60fps
- backwards compatible
- keep low cost
- if going all digital then make sure you have add-on disc drive
- design wise, don't make it look oddly shaped, even when the disc drive is attached
- when mid gen hits, reduce price with slim model, no pro model needed or else everyone gets in a frenzy and everybody talks like they're all PC experts left and right, but more importantly it wont make early adapters feel like they're getting an inferior experience. Equal playing field throughout the gen.

That's it.

I think the problem with the major studios isn't the graphics per se, but the massively ambitious titles they continue to insist on producing. It seems like the industry is still desperate to prove itself to other media, and in that desperation keeps trying to one-up itself (no pun intended) to keep making the most grand and epic adventures ever seen (when they're not flooding the market with live service titles because they need to squeeze people for every dime to make up for their ever-bloating costs). But not every game needs to be some colossal open-world experience with 100+ hours of gameplay or whatever. I wouldn't mind great graphics with all the bells & whistles being put into a game that I can reasonably beat in well under 10 hours. We need more shorter "AA" games, and the industry doesn't need to leave that up to indie devs or re-releases of retro titles. And there's a market for those games. Capcom's best-selling game ever is a remake of a survival horror game released in 1998 that takes only 8-9 hours to clear. Bring back shmups. Put these shorter games out for $40 a pop and they'd sell like hotcakes, and on a lower budget to boot.
