Yes, I know you were cherry picking the data for this specific quarter. Hence, the reverse cherry picking for added context.

Bottom line is that it wouldn't be doing that relatively well without the context of the last quarter. Switch is still Nintendo's main console with brand new games still coming out. There hasn't been any data on Nintendo's new console, while the PS4 had to contend with PS5 and global stock shortages. Switch has many advantages, despite the age.

It's not "cherry picking" to compare a quarter's sales in the thread dedicated to that quarter's sales.

And again you're misunderstanding; I wasn't comparing it to PS4's sales at the same age, simply providing context as to just how old it is. Its successor has also been soft-announced for a reveal this FY, so people know it's not far off.

It's selling well in context, that's all I'm saying.

You were touting Switch being 300k less than PS5 as impressive. Which while I agreed the sales numbers itself was good, it is not so impressive because of the PS5 being within 300k.

Because you brought the PS5 into the mix rather than just saying "Switch sold 2.1m, that's impressive for its age", I felt the need to add context for the PS5's low numbers.

That being said……it is either frickin impressive the switch sold 2.1 year 8 to the ps5 2.4 year 4. Or ifs it not impressive on Nintendo side. Super sad on ps5 side.

I was describing Switch's legs as impressive in their own right. PS5 was only ever mentioned as context, not as any kind of console warring.

I've no issue with you adding further context, you just seem to have misconstrued some of what I'm saying.

Anyone has the corresponding quarterly numbers of the PS2? After all, that console was also selling very late into it's life cycle, though in this case mostly due to the disastrous launch of the PS3

In cases like these you can always check my Historical Consoles Showdown.

The shipped numbers on the PS2 after it's second calendar quarter (ending June 2007, if you meant the same time on the market as Switch) was 120.5M so give it or take it ~20M behind. The quarter numbers were 2.66M. For reference the DS corresponding period (holiday aligned) was April to June 2012 quarter which was 530k, and it's lifetime to date were 152M.

That's the one I was looking for, I didn't know exactly which was the corresponding quarter, so I got a bit confused in that chart. Thanks a lot for the clarification.

So basically in the corresponding quarter to the Switch the PS2 not only outsold the Switch (which was a bit to be expected considering the PS2's extremely long tail), but also the PS5's current quarter, which was certainly not to be expected
