What caused KLXVER's ban?

He seemed like a nice guy and typically had unique views.  Seems like he was being difficult and harsh with his posts, at least according to his profile.

He should have called for the murder of an entire political party, less punishment (1 wk versus his 2 wk ban).

He went into the US Politics thread to complain about the locking of the Charlie Kirk thread, suggesting that the mods locked it for the purpose of covering up for the left/protecting the left. That's despite the new details about the shooter being discussed in the US Politics thread, all of which pointed to a young man with far-right political views.

This made it obvious that KLXVER didn't really care about Kirk or his killer, but was pissed off for the simple reason that the mods had shut down a thread that served as a platform for him to spread his hatred for the left. He was aggressive, insulting mods and users alike.

The difference in penalty likely comes down to making one bad post as opposed to about ten in a row. Regardless, I'd appreciate a link to the other banned user you are talking about because I missed that one.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

Yeah, ok, I had that one coming. I remember it well.

But guys......There is more to life than POLITICS !!!!!

And, there is more to life than VIDEO GAMES !!!!

Have a nice life !!!!!!

GOODBYE !!!!!!

Thanks for taking accountability, I could do another stat of people who accept their bans, Lol. I'm pretty sure we forgave ShavenFerret's ban as well but can't remove it, because I believe it was a misinterpretation but if that is the case (I will verify it) then it should be removed from my list. Alongside those who accept their bans and the blatant infractions, the list will get even smaller than it already is.

May or may not be transphobic, but it certainly falls within the "don't be a dick head" category of rules and that seems pretty reasonable to me to ban someone.

Edit: Nevermind. I see the rules are more clearly defined these days.

The rules used to be coded into the site itself and a lot more broad and I think we had more of them, for years we couldn't even edit it so we instead made it into a thread and diverted the hyperlink of the ruleset to that thread, Lol. It was because we were going to be more agile in adjusting the ruleset too, even in that ruleset there's a few that we tend to completely ignore anyway.

○  Need to accurately describe the subject content and should not use deceptive hooks to lure people in

Like this...

○  Copy/Pasting full transcriptions of articles is strictly prohibited!

And this...

○  Your thread should never only be a link to the story/article/video/etc. You must include your own commentary

And this...But honestly I disagree with the latter part of this, I try to avoid including my thoughts directly in the OP when creating a thread because I feel like it could steer discussion in a certain direction (like, my direction, which I don't think would be right to encourage) and I want people to read the story and form their own opinion.

○   Do not say that item A/B/C sucks! Give reasons why a product is either bad or great

Probably relaxed on this, haha.

○   Some profanity is understandable, but try not to overdo it. VGC is a place for people of all ages, so be mindful

Probably relaxed on this (I've got to stop swearing so much).

○   Necro-bumping threads beyond 30 days without good cause

We've been lighter on this lately, Lol.

○   Posting more than three consecutive times in a thread. Use the multi-quote function if that helps

We basically ignore this now, but previous Mods used this rule to ban the shit out of users which wasn't fun.

○   Backseat Moderating - You are not a moderator! Use the Report button or contact a moderator via PM if you see anything that needs attention

I mean, Lol. There's quite a bit of this lately.

Here's some rules I'd like to see added...

1. Don't post an objectively false claim. You can't say that "All PS5 discs are just download keys," for example.
2. Don't post rumors or unsubstantiated claims. A games website or youtuber saying something doesn't necessarily make it true.
3. Understand the difference between objectivity and subjectivity. Understand the difference between a fact and an opinion.

1/2 could just be merged into one, don't post an objectively false claim, don't post unsubstantiated claims both cover a lot of the same areas, essentially check your sources before making a claim, and actually this is something that a lot of people are doing in highly sensitive political threads lately and is something we should be cracking down on but aren't. So it extends beyond gaming.

We have a rule for #2 (Rumours) when it comes to Threads but it's a bit more complicated with Posts.

○  RUMORS: Only create threads based on credible rumors. Do not come up with rumors of your own

I don't agree that all rumours should be banned, there is a massive difference because NateDrake/Jason Schreier and "Some Random Rage-Baiting Idiot YouTuber" and when it comes to the latter, we do tend to lock those threads because the sources are awful, but we don't tend to action on specific, individual posts about them in a thread, so lets use an example.

  • "Random YouTuber Says Concord Cost $2bn!" - If that's a thread, it would be locked, unless it's actually a credible leaker.
  • "Random YouTuber Says Concord Cost $2bn!" - If that's a post, I don't think we tend to moderate it but maybe we should.

There has definitely been a bit of a "I'll just post whatever I want" lately across all aspects of the website, no matter the source, or not even providing any sources at all, and I think we're personally doing a disservice to the quality of threads by allowing that to happen. In Gaming I've had to call out so many "I heard..." "This YouTube said..." lately, for things which were obviously horseshit, Lol.

This reminds me that GamingLeaksAndRumours has a leaker credibility tier, Lol.

He came into US Politics and called the Mod team "fucking idiots", I went into Modchat and told them to not ban him, despite the fact he was insulting the entire team, Lol. I told him that if he rescinded the insult then I wouldn't ban him, but he threw that offer in my face, and when other users tried to debate him in perfectly acceptable terms and ask him to elaborate, he responded with "Who the fuck are you?" so a combination of him attacking Staff and refusing to take it back and attacking Users for no reason resulted in a ban.

I have given him two weeks to give him more than enough time to cooldown and take a step back, if he actually apologises and takes accountability then I would support pulling it back to 1 week but it was obvious the guy lost his temper, and I don't want to do just a few days and have him come back still angry and immediately get re-banned again, I don't particularly want to have to ban KLXVER multiple times until it hits perm.

Agreed, I didn't start the conversation but I got sucked into it, I then agreed with Raven and Basil that this thread wasn't the appropriate area for this and took some accountability in dragging this thread off-course and then said I would stop discussing Charlie Kirk in here. That post was made after the post that you've just replied to.

Is it just me…or does it feel like this site has become extremely negative seemingly overnight? The latest Nintendo Direct discussion has opened my eyes a little, seeing how negative a lot of users have been compared to forums such as ResetEra, Famiboards, and even social media sites such as X. And now I’m seeing that there’s been nonstop arguing in this forum on topics ranging from “how moderators should moderator,” the Charlie Kirk assassination, etc. This is a little concerning…I hope everyone is doing okay?

Politics, imo, is the reason.  Allowinf politics is just dividing people.  There was an school fishing site I used to love, politics were allowed and the place went to hell.  Ended up closing because it became toxic and too many left.

Allowed or not, people can choose to participate or not. I personally have blocked politics, not because I’m not political but because I don’t want to see that on a video game forum. It’s an easy solution, or it was until politics decided to camp out in this thread.
