They cite famitsu as the source for 380k, this is 4 weeks of sales from May 29th to June 25th. If you count June as a 5 week month from May 29th to Jul 02 then sales for June are 496k.

I could say surely this month Switch will start returning to its previous baseline but I truly have no idea what to expect from it in Japan now.

with Final Fantasy VII Part 2, Dragon Quest and a new Monster Hunter World 2. The PS5 could even outsell the Nintendo Wii in Japan. I didn't think this was possible a year ago.

The PS4 had all of these franchises and it didn't outsold the Wii.

How do the 89% drop on the second week of FFXVI compare to the other mainline FF entries? Seems like a pretty harsh drop.

Gotta love thinly veiled port begging that utterly fails to see the upward global momentum that the Final Fantasy franchise continues to have.

Call it whatever you want. I don't think the sales in the West are going to be as high as Square-Enix was banking on too. It's not 1999 anymore, keeping 3rd party content away from platforms and only fixating on one ecosystem for what's supposed to be a "big brand" IP is dumb.

For Capcom in the long run, Street Fighter VI will probably outsell SFV because it will in part inevitably get a Switch 2 version and the extra copies you get from an XBox release and so on.

Funny how Zelda and Final Fantasy have basically flip flopped positions from 20 years ago, Zelda is a rising franchise in Japan with the BOTW style whereas Final Fantasy has declined hard.

As I said, Square-Enix needs to try to start to rebuild a fanbase for the main line Final Fantasy projects on the Switch going forward. FF16 and FF7 Remake ports on Switch 2 should both happen, FF17 should also be on Switch 2 along with PS5/XBox/PC. Yes, it might be a bit of a pain to port, but if the franchise is allowed to go on like this, it's going to crumble into irrelevance in Japan, which is a much bigger and worse problem for SE.

An issue could be if their agreement with Sony includes complete console exclusivity including Nintendo. But yeah I agree that major future FF entries need to have Switch 2 ports. I don’t think that is an impossible task by any means.

but there will also be many other games. ps5 is selling more than ps4 for the same period of time and the trend is to continue like this.

Man, here we are in Year 7 and the Switch is as strong as ever!

It just might finish even or better than 2022 at this rate! If it does, then it'll be past the Game Boy by the end of the year!

DS - 32.99 million
GB/GBC - 32.47 million
-----------------------------------
NS - 29.77 million

If NS is even w/ 2022 - 32.53 million.

Upward global momentum? Didn’t XV ship 5 million in its opening weekend while XVI did 3 million?

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

The main reason why the Switch is doing so well in Japan recently. Obviously the Zelda effect, Mario movie, Nintendo Direct hype, hardware replacement, but most likely because of the weak yen. There has been an increase in foreigners in Japan the past decade, but even more lately. Summer break, release of covid restrictions, and most importantly combined with the weak yen, the OLED Switch costs about $100 less in Japan than in the US for example. That means $270 for OLED without any sale price. There's also a lot of Chinese as always and they are notorious for enjoying shopping sprees in Japan. So if you're wondering why the Switch is still selling like crazy in its 7th year in a country with declining population, that is why.
