Forums - Nintendo - Thoughts on the Nintendo Direct?

When taking into account the likelihood that the Switch is going to be replaced some time next year, it was good. Mario Wonder is a great holiday title and is exciting in a way 2d Mario hasn't been since the first New Super Mario Bros. Batman and Metal Gear collections are very nice to have - and Arkham Knight will be very interesting to see how it turns out since that was a game which the developers stated was too demanding for the Wii U to run. I also like that the Metal Gear games are available separately. Some neat remakes, though I think a remake of Super Mario RPG could have been so much more than that. New Princess Peach and Warioware games are nice additions.

I'm guessing Metroid Prime 4, Mario Odyssey 2 (or whatever the next real 3D Mario is), got moved to Switch 2 or are cross-platform Switch 2 releases at this point.

Also feels like junior staff are pumping out MK8 DLC while the main team works on Mario Kart Next.

Mario RPG looked great, definitely a game that brings back memories.

I rank it above the PS showcase and SGF. Really solid direct imo

Considering the expectations I went in with it was for sure a nice one. Finally the first original 2D Mario game in 17 years.

You're using of original is a bit strange to me.  What was un original about the Wii version? or the Wii U version?

And do the ones on DS and 3DS not count?

Super Mario 3D world is a weird one. It IS 3D but it far more in common with 2D than any of the 3d mario games.

You are bound to love Earthbound.

0 games for me

0 from Enix

Not even ports/remasters of older systems...

And no DLC for Zelda yet

I will give it a 3/10 score

7/10
Very solid especially considering expectations were low as Switch is nearing its end.
It does seem like a lot of games announced are low budget AA games or remakes rather than AAA. Not that low budget games are bad by no means, but AAA are more exciting as an announcement. Some surprises as well like Wario and Peach games.
BUT Pikmin 4 looks fantastic, I really wanted that kind of game and it's looking like a great entry to the series.
Pacing was perfect, I wish more showcases would learn from it. But way too many games releasing on November o_o
Overall I've seen better Directs so I can't give 10/10 but it was very good.

It felt to me like Switch 2 is around that cotner

It was solid but a lot of remakes, re-releases and ports.

It was a good thing they got Everybody 1 2 Switch out of the way so it didn't drag the rest of the presentation down. Also I think I only counted 2 farm sims this time.

I am definitely going to buy Super Mario RPG, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and WarioWare Move It. I really hope Super Mario Bros. Wonder has online co-op.

Metroid Prime 4 is vaporware.

a lot of remakes, even remakes of remakes (was that a port of the 3DS Luigi's Mansion which was a port of the GameCube game?).

It's pretty clearly the second game. They clearly say "Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, originally released on Nintendo 3DS".

Those were just iterations of NSMB DS. By 2012 when NSMB 2 and NSMB U both came out months apart a lot of people got sick of them and have been wanting something original that has its own unique identity and feel.
