Doesn't sound like it matters what they say lol. May as well not say anything.
Anyhow, the factory situation is reality, and nothing makes that less true. It's one of many reasons for what is happening.

Drop the condescending act.
Are they saying something? Did they reply to any of the 8K+ comments on their main PS Blog? Or the 80K on their main Twitter page. Don't they believe in what they are doing? Is hiding for 3 days after the announcement supposed to inspire confidence? Just a bunch of cowards trying to force shit on consumers.
And don't try to paint it backwards, of course the factory situation is real, and that's is a consequence of Sony's decisions, not a reason they are needing to react to with it, how that even begins to make sense?
Sony has been shutting down physical/optical media operations over the years, that is what they want, that is what they are doing, they are pushing it, not being pushed into it.

Look, I just think that any reply from Sony at this point is inconsequential. It won't change anyone's anger towards them. They know this, I'm sure. And besides, the reply will come from the social comms team. Do they deserve whatever harassment will be sent their way after sending out a message? It's not fair on them. I'm not even sure the people making this decision even have social media presence. Sony doesn't engage with their fanbase in this way that Microsoft does.
Regarding the factory, they have multiple clients. If these clients, including PlayStation, are seeing lesser demand for physical, that means they're ordering less. The factory's output is declining, and clearly to the point where it's not sustainable to run full operations and keep everyone employed. Sony DADC are moving into a new industry using their current processes, because there's demand there. No one can expect the factory to not prepare itself to for a future in which their core product is no longer viable financially for them.
Them moving away from physical disc manufacture is a natural consequence of consumer habits changing to physical and digital. I know you value physical media, but do you not consume digital games? Do you now stream content? Are you not then engaging with the very medium of delivery that has caused the decline in physical.
Naturally, Sony also has an incentive to go all digital. But we know consumer habits are changing anyways. We have the data from their financials which show the decline in physical sales. We know games are taking up less shelf space at retailers. It's end up being an easier decision for them to make in that case, but it's not one they wouldn't have considered or been thinking about anyways. How long should they keep up physical? A lot of us assumed PS6 would use discs, but then it would die for PS7. It's a gen earlier than expected.
Regarding the sourced links: they all seem to directly state that the reason for closing production on these the re-writable disc business was because they were losing money on it, and that the market for their products were being eaten up by streaming. This is an example of consumer habits having a direct consequence on products being sold.
