Nintendo is fine. The Switch is fine. It's 6 years old. No system can maintain peak sales forever.

I agree.

The PS5 is set to have the lowest tie ratio for a console in Japan, ever.

That would be Xbox one or Xbox series.

04./04. [NSW] Fire Emblem: Engage # (Nintendo) {2023.01.20} (¥6.980) - 12.920 / 185.920 (-55%)

This is 37% less than 3 Houses on its third week. I was hopefully expecting Japan to make up the decrease in sales from west, but it now seems unlikely

Expecting it to cross at least 1.5 million copies worldwide anyway

Surprised to see Bayonetta 3 and the Switch version of One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 in the top 30. Pirate Warriors 4 is almost at 200k for Switch two.

Still, despite really good hardware sales for the PS5 this week, it’s hard to ignore the rather poor performance of its software. I know digital, f2p, etc., are key, but I can’t imagine digital sales being that significant if, from what I remember reading from previous posts in past Japanese sales threads, people said that digital sales aren’t as high in Japan compared to the West.

Games like Miles Morales, God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Demon Souls, etc., have basically disappeared after a few weeks or so in the chart while games like Breath of the Wild (a soon-to-be 6 year old game mind you) has remained a resident in the top 30 for a good chunk of time, which probably hasn’t happened before in the franchise’s history.

I wonder when or if the PS5 can achieve any sort of parity with the Switch software in the top 30 charts before the Switch heads off into the sunset? No matter how you slice it, not even having a third of the top 30 chart PS games is not the best look for a PS console a couple years into its life.

Why on earth is the PS5 selling well in Japan, do people use it as a streaming box or something. Because they sure as hell are not really using it to play PlayStation 5 games with. PC has a much bigger library for free to play games, so why buy a PS5, if you are not going to buy PS5 games for it.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Was there some kind of backorder batch for PS5? It's weird seeing a top selling console in a week without a single top selling software.

Some people may be buying it in anticipation of specific games. Also you're spending @@@ 600€ ,Japanese may not be able to afford to buy a game along with the console, a 70 euros game, so they're planning to do it in a depth of time. And obviously loyal ps4 users are transitioning now with the sufficient stock, isn't PS5 BW combatible?
