There seems to be some confusion about the Switch software domination but I not really that confused. Consider this:

There are roughly 10x as many Switch units out in Japan as PS5 units. Even if the PS5 outsells the Switch for most of the year I would still expect the Switch to move more software.

The threshold for getting into the Top 10 this week is 4480 units. Usually a console selling like the PS5 should be able to cross that line with a few titles.

Yes I understand where you are coming from and over the course of the last few weeks we have seen a handful of PS4 and PS5 titles in the top 20.  But we have seen Switch dominating software for quite some time.  Obviously this has a lot to do with the lopsided install base   And the PS5 has only outsold the Switch for 2 weeks this year after months of not even reaching half the sales.

The PS5 is going to have to keep outselling the Switch before we regularly see games in the top 10.

Also we need more notable releases.  If you don't see Hogwarts in the top 10 next week then we can speculate further.

Do these charts cover digital sales?

Xbox got a nice bump, probably due to the price increase coming and possibly word of mouth for Hi-Fi Rush? Xbox's first Japanese developed (not just published) game ever. They should expand Tango, make some JP deals like the 360 days and see how they can do in the region. Doing better than the Xbone and OG Xbox is only the first step.

The console will receive a price increase starting in February 17 in Japan, these high numbers are possibly due to people wanting to buy the console at the current price before the increase.

Yet they still get massively skipped on niche games :/

Level 5 now. Bet all these devs want that GP deal.

What is it about PS5 software sales, it appears to be consistently low for a decent and rapidly growing hardware base, is it cost of buying a few games after purchasing expensive hardware, resellers buying a ton of systems, software not enticing for a larger audience?

Am I missing something obvious to most? I'm genuinely confused by this

Great week for PS5.

Next week, Hogwart's Legacy have a chance to debut in #1.

Interesting data, The Switch is about 35% down YoY, whilst the PS5 is UP more than 200% YoY and Xbox Series is Up about 50%.

Interesting year for sure.

These type of comments about low physical sales for PS5 will probably continue for its entire generation.

Honestly as someone living in Japan right now, it is really hard for scalpers to buy the PS5, because most of the retailers required more hoops to jump through in order to buy one.

One requirement is that you can only buy 1 PS5 from one retailer for lifetime. So if you wanted a PS5 for yourself after selling it overseas, you would have to find another place. Do this 5 or 6 times and you are out of major retailers.
