It's cool that a little ol developer like Compulsion will get access to Activision's huge mocap studio, Lol.

The Lord of Cereal over on ResetEra found this out so none of this comes from me.

Ahmed Best on Instagram

He posted that he's in mocap and tagged Activision.

On his Instagram story he posted about PuffyBlade at Activision with Ahmed.

PuffyBlade is a Producer on South of Midnight.

So Ahmed Best might be in South of Midnight but also equally as cool, Compulsion might have access to Activision's mocap studio now.

Hmmm, I saw in an article yesterday that Ahmed Best also posted Star Wars tags, including Kelleren Beq and Jar Jar Binks, in addition to tagging Activision. He also posted "Just when I think I'm out, they drag me back in". Seems to me like either he is doing mo-cap for premium CoD skins for Jar Jar and Kelleren Beq, or Activision is making a Star Wars game that they pitched to Disney shortly after Disney terminated EA's 10 year exclusivity deal early around 2021.

However, I suppose he could also be doing mocap work for South of Midnight while there in the mocap studio, since he is there with a Compulsion dev.

He might just tag em cause they're what he's known for, engagement tagging and all that, Lol.

Would be awesome if he was in South of Midnight.

Still no clue how Geoff ever managed to get that "famous" in this industry. He has pretty much nothing to say except for "I love Kojima". He's so irrelevant and yet he's like one of the most famous persons in this industry.

His parents were IMAX executives and members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Lol.

Said it for years that Geoff is an insufferable cunt. Glad to see that talentless fuck getting called out.

All the events of the past year have just made me even more convinced that Microsoft is better positioning themselves for the future, I think in fact that maybe even for once Microsoft isn't moving too early, their console market is already tiny. Everything Microsoft has been saying for the past few years is coming to pass and I don't think it's a matter of budget restrictions why most of their AAAs aren't massive budgets as well. There's two problems here, the lack of growth for console hardware and the exploding budgets in AAA.

There's going to be anger from single console only users, but the old ways are failing, they're not showing growth and growth is required for investors to invest. Things are bad right now, the models are outdated and they need changing, it's going to come down to change or die, things aren't going to miraculously improve for consoles in the future, if anything, they'll decline even further as newer generations care less and less about consoles and are more about mobile/ease of access, consoles will be seen as outdated by kids playing Fortnite or whatever on their mobile devices.

I'm betting in the next 5-10 years that Sony goes fully day one on PC as well, I don't get why they haven't already, I don't agree that there's a significant amount of PC users with PCs capable of playing Sony's big AAA blockbusters, having already spent about $1k on them, who will buy a PS5 because they can't wait for a Sony title to come to PC. The dam has been broken, PC users already know now that it isn't a matter of if a Sony title comes to PC, it's a matter of when and they've shown themselves more than capable of waiting. We're talking about a userbase who largely can't even be bothered to spend 5 minutes to download another launcher and happily wait for EGS exclusivity to expire, Lol.

Now Sony might not put stuff on Xbox consoles because Xbox consoles will be too small of a number but if roles were reversed I think they'd eventually do exactly what Microsoft is doing. If even Sony as the market leader of the high-end console market is struggling, showing stagnate growth, weak profit margins, exploding production costs and resulting in them having to change business approach, can sure as shit bet that the console with half the sales has to make even more drastic steps.

A lot of people don't like change but change is coming, adapt or die.

Sony has not gone full day one on PC because of their huge console marketshare but that marketshare as we have seen is not bringing in the profits like they would want.  What Sony may do is scale down projects and release smaller games which doesn't kill the budget but net a nice return with that marketshare.  I do believe Sony will go full day one on PC and PS but I am not sure it will be any of their heavy hitters because those are what define the PS and it would have a greater impact for Sony than it does for MS on their marketshare.

Change is definitely coming to everyone in the industry.  Its why we are slowly seeing change with even Japanese studios as they realize spending a huge chunk of money on just one platform leads to less than stellar results.  MS need to make a big push to allow them to port their games to the Xbox eco system as much as possible.  The fact that more developers are putting games on PC probably will help alot with support for Xbox.

The expectation of the gamers he is talking about - that was nurtured by the gaming industry itself. An easy way to separate the products of big companies (AAA quality) from the peasants. That now comes back to bite them. And yes, the salaries of employees isn't the problem, the problem is the number of employees and the time needed for just one project. The projects are simply too big.

To the other stuff: yes, also indies losing funding, as in difficult times investors are fickle. But an indie with restrained budget has a much easier time to break even, as the big AAA game. So while indies in general don't have it easy, they aren't in the same trap as the AAA industry, so there is some hope.

The big problem here is the 'black hole games' (nice term Piscatella, I am borrowing this). Despite many AAA games failing (like Suicide Squad) there are a few service games that are exceptional successful. They are sucking all the air out of the market, both in terms of player time and customer money. If I play Fortnite, I cannot play anything else (the reason I stopped playing it, after realising I don't play anything else anymore). These are a big problem and a difference to Hollywood, as even successful movies will end sometime and only few people watch the same movie over and over. But you can play service games endlessly. That may become a problem, as around them the area dries up, as these games take the interested players. For smaller single player games it may actually be more lucrative to focus on niches that are not taken by a big service game.

And then the devs hit out to foreign game makers. That is bad behaviour. For struggling japanese companies: this fits first and foremost the big AAA companies with global reach. They adopted a similar culture to american game makers. Other than that I read regularly that you can't compare non-american game devs to american, because of lesser payment. I actually don't know if that even is true, but I would argue even if it is, you have to consider that most developed countries that are not the US have proper health insurance and working social security system, both in unemployment payments and some safety from layoffs. This may result in higher taxes and lower payment, but I think that overall the employees are better off.

And then we have the decade old thing about overworking in Japan. But assuming nothing has changed in these decades is just racist bullshit. The karoshi phenomenon was a thing of the 80s - four decades ago! Japanese government has done a lot since then and working culture has changed as generations changed. And while not all is rainbows and sunshine, bringing up overtime in japanese companies at this point may be not more than racist stereotype, especially given that crunch time is a strong phenomenon over in the west now.

So yeah, bringing up indies and japanese/non-american game devs as alternatives to the unsustainable AAA model is still valid, even though you have to take it (as everything basically) with some considerations and asterisks. That's why I am happy to see Xbox is still supporting smaller games like Pentiment/Grounded/HiFi-Rush in difference to Sony who have given up on them. As this will be much more sustainable going forward. That's why I am happy to see breakout hits on small budget like Palworld. This is how gaming survives the AAA crash that is happening right now. There will not be a time without games, just a time with no bigger games.

Probably because the people he associate with are the people with the purse strings.  If you understand who to network with and who not to, you can gain a lot of success that way.
