Forums - Sales Discussion - Switch Sales Top 110M, PS5 Tops 21M - Global Hardware July 3-9

"2022 year-to-date, the Nintendo Switch has sold an estimated 8.22 million units, the PlayStation 5 has sold 4.06 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 3.96 million units." I'm figuring the switch should be able to pull in another 10-12m +/- to finish the year around the 120m+ mark. PS5/Series could get another 6-8m ea, provided they can get production improved. They have been doing better... but still room for improvement. Holidays are coming and some buy early while others take their chances as it gets further along.

Switch hits 110m!  It also gets nearly 300k this week.  It's still selling at a really nice pace.

Switch should be at #3 by the end of the year.  However, it's not even going to get close to the top 2 until sometime 2024+.  There is a hell of a gap between #3 and #2.

Switch only being about 10% down from this week last year is a good sign.
With Splatoon 3, Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, and much more still to come for 2022, it's looking to have one of the best 6th calendar years ever.

Everything down from last week, NS first as usual, PS5 second and again we're still far away from knowing PS5 and XS true sales potential.

Sales of 10m to 12m from July to December for Switch is lowballing, i think 13m to 14m is more realistic. July to December covers fiscal Q2+Q3, in the five previous years switch has shipped 10.16m, 12.60m, 15.61m, 18.43m & 14.50m over this period. I expect Switch sales to be a tiny bit worse than last year and so does Nintendo.

Yeah I suspect that as well. There is a chance however, that it could sell more because there's more/bigger games coming this year compared to last year. But we also have to take in consideration supply shortage and 6th year of its life.

I stand by my previous assessment. Switch is third all time. I do not see it catching the DS and ps2.

We don’t yet know exactly how Switch is going to tail off because it’s a hybrid. There are more influencer streams to consider than just those handheld (local multiplayer being the main one) or a home console (sharing the console). There’s also supply to consider. But traditionally Q3 has weathered decline better than other quarters.

Most likely. If Nintendo really wanted to tho, they can make the switch pass the DS and the PS2 by just decreasing price or releasing a switch pro that includes in the switch family. Console sale numbers don't really matter tho other than accomplishing something, getting people talking about it, and company pride. There is a possibility for anything, but realistically speaking it would not surpass the DS PS2.
