Forums - Sales - XS Outsells PS5, Switch Comfortably in 1st - Global Hardware Mar 13-19

XBox is kicking ass this week.  PS5 is only just slightly ahead of X|S in Europe, and that is supposed to be their best territory.  In the Americas X|S is even ahead of Switch this week.

In general, XBox is doing extremely well and they haven't even released any of their Bethesda or Activision exclusives yet.  I think they are going to be a force to be reckoned with this generation.

Yup, that's what we've been trying to say for a while.

We don't expect them to beat Sony and the ps5 but the race will be much closer.

I’m not even an Xbox owner or fan, but even I’ve been interested to see where they’re going. I know some people don’t like the idea of greater exclusivity, but in an era with such large volumes of software releases (like 25-50 a week on Switch alone), there’s a lot more room for high numbers of exclusives compared to the N64 and Gamcube era where you might not get 25-50 games in the first half of the year.

I like the idea of competition and diversity of vision. Xbox is turning into something more than a PS Clonebox. I think they’ve been seeking their own identity since last generation, but the Kinect thing just didn’t work out.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Still the general consensus is " I can't find a ps5". Massive shortages issue. The xbox series s has been easy to find ever since launch. They should break down the series s/x sales just so we can see how series x is doing against ps5. But both will be have supply issues for sure.

Xbox Series sales in America are really nice!
PS5 in Euroe though…

There was a decent sized shipment for both in the US and UK, although Series X had the most consoles available. PS5 had a bit more consoles available in mainland Europe than in previous weeks. But not the same size as was seen in the US and UK.

Man.... production this slow so far into the gen.... feels bad man.

Series S was clearly a brilliant move. I don't see ps5 and series X supply getting better anytime soon.

“Consoles are great… if you like paying extra for features PCs had in 2005.”

I do wonder with how popular the S is and how long the shortages of PS5 and Series X are lasting, if this will impact how much dev teams push engines for future games in the second half of this generation's life. If they know that, hypothetically, 30% of the PS5/XS market is Series S devices, then I could see many dev teams not pushing graphics as much as they would if Series S was only, let's say, 10% of the market.

Switch will continue to dominate until the switch 2.

Switch's 2022 still ahead of it's 2020 YTD.
Obviously, late March will put an end to that once we get aligned with the Animal Crossing tsunami, but still, considering Switch was already going strong before AC arrived, still impressive that it's kept pace this far, at the end of it's 5th year on the market.
